Desktop computer

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys

I want to buy a desktop computer for my maid so her kids can do schoolwork online.

Just need the base unit as I have a spare moinitor / keyboard etc.

Any recommendation on what to buy with all the standard software packages already installed and where to buy?

Despite working with them most of my life I know very little about computers!!

Appreciate the help

Cheers

Get the AIO (all in one PC), HP AIO 21-b0108d (22U42AA) for example (it is a bit slow, but sure enough to learn from home)

A bit faster solution Lenovo IdeaCentre AIO 3-22ADA05-F0EX0096TA. Just google the models and will show you Thai shops where you can order it.

Oh, I missed that you have peripherals already, get something like T-Bao TBOOK MN27 AMD Ryzen7 2700U 8GB DDR4 256GB NVME SSD. Google: Ryzen based Mini PC, or Intel based Mini PC, just look for specs, preferable to have Ryzen CPU and at least 8GB of RAM.

This one on Lazada for example (not sure if it is allowed to link it here)

My last PC was HP and although it was a basic model, it was fully kitted out and only cost around 12,000 baht at the time, this from Power Buy. They do have specials on occasionally, so maybe worth a look if there is one nearby.

And also before I forget, well done on this kind gesture.

You can get a reconditioned optiplex from lazada for 3K

I have one here which I can donate, the PSU seems to have died, you can pick a s/h one for around 500B.

Hi Recom

Thanks for the kind offer, but I am on Phuket so a bit far to come and pick it up!!

Thanks for the tip about Lazada, hate that company but will check it out.

Op, you may want to enquire to your maids children's school, as they may have subsidised, discounted, an agreement with a supplier etc, computers for students to purchase. Also they can advise on required software etc.

I wouldn't be surprised if Thai gov has some sort of program to assist poor students to get a computer.

what is your budget ?
one thing to note is they need a camera and microphone for online learning
another thing which i think is extremely important
if you are going to give a child a computer, be sure to install a net nanny
i am using Kaspersky safe kids and find it good for its purpose ($14.99)
not to avoid sex predators etc
but just to prevent the kid becoming a brain dead drone by getting hooked on the tonnes of cr4p out there if the kid is left to their own devices which is likely to happen
DM me if you want any more info

Agree that an inexpensive Optiplex is the way to go. The AIO suggested by clearance is fit only for the bin; a total waste of money.

The Mini PC..... is not even in Thailand. I don't know what they are thinking.

Typical example: https://www.nextstepreborn.co.th/desktop-th/คอมมือสอง-nextstep-Dell-Optiplex-3050-Sff-i3-gen-case-TH Put a cheap SSD in as a Boot drive.

No PC is coming full of software packages unless they are stolen.

Likely same company on Lazada: https://www.lazada.co.th/products/pc-dell-3050-sff-i3-gen6-ram-4-gb-hdd-500-gb-i2187476787-s7335644959.html

Here's an example with an SSD already fitted; but ridiculously easy to do yourself. SSD(solid state drive) is a MUST. https://www.lazada.co.th/products/pc-dell-optiplex-3050-sff-i3-gen-6-m2-256-gb-i1662504349-s4635946626.html

If future proofing is desired; then some with a 7th Gen Intel CPU is recommended: https://www.lazada.co.th/products/dell-optiplex-3050-i5gen7-ram4gb-hdd1tb-i1814860854-s5432770333.html though you'll still need to add an SSD, from around 500 baht.

Either way; it can be done for just a few thousand baht. If I was on Phuket I would happily put it all together for you; but I am far away. Surely there is someone on the board in Phuket who can assist.

Mini PC's have been here for years.

but agreed, SSD is essential these days,
Win10 just doesnt run on HDD reliably anymore.

You misunderstood. clearance's link to a Mini PC leads to a seller outside of Thailand.

Hi Petr

Talking to the school first is a great idea.

Hi Patman

Did not have a budget figure but looks like it will be at least 12K to get everything together

You don't need to spend so much - this is quite adequate.

https://www.invadeit.co.th/product/desktop-pcs/intel/nuc7cjysal-mini-pc-nuc-p040865/

I have one, which I bought for programming and testing, Its not the fastest of processors, but it will do the job. You need to add RAM and a ssd or hard drive.

If you are intent on spending 12K then there are some other models NUC available - they are just small boxes that can be stored easily, even on the back of a monitor, you can't go far wrong by calling invade and asking how they can assist you.

12k is plenty for a kid, just go to JIB,
they will build it for you too,

if you buy parts (cheapest option) and you are not confident building yourself
building a PC is really not difficult at all
you can look at current parts in stock online
and you get added benefit of warranty which is always hassle free through JIB
(JIB do also stock ASUS Mini PC's too????)
i just looked on JIB and cheapest for
mainboard, cpu, ram, case, PSU, keyboard and mouse comes to 7,880 BAHT
kid should not need a dedicated VGA card for online learning which is being done via youtube and LINE,
and personally i would pay the 400 baht extra for 240gb WD green SSD instead of the cheapest 120GB Galax, and extra 100 baht for nicer case
and if you want to be nice, double the RAM to 8GB, helps a lot these days
JIB have a spec builder online, here are cheapest COMPATIBLE options:

CPU

Keyboard and mouse

you can also get a webcam with built in mic for 590 baht

Buy windows online
you can get for around $20
G2A carge about 26 euros for genuine win10 pro key
other places you can buy for a little bit less

Waste of money for the OP. NUC are not good value. The OP hasn't asked for a mini solution, so what is the reason for pushing such an inadequate system?

This thread has lost it's way.

Not helpful when the OP comes out with statements such as " but looks like it will be at least 12K to get everything together" without any indication of how he got to that figure.
