Popular Post webfact
Palang Pracharat Party’s secretary-general, Thammanat Prompow By Thai PBS World’s Political Desk The ruling party’s latest internal reshuffle indicates it desperately wants to win the next election, amid speculation that the national poll will be called early. Palang Pracharath Party rejigged its executive board at a general assembly on Friday (June 18) which saw General Prawit Wongsuwan return as leader and his protégé Deputy Agriculture and Cooperatives Minister Thammanat Prompow elected unopposed as secretary-general. Analysts say the ruling party’s new executive committee and ongoing push for changes to the Constitution leave it well placed to return and form the next government. Popular Post colinneil
What is this country going to do in the future, if a convicted criminal becomes P.M.? Have those people completely lost the plot? Recent times have shown some absolutely crazy happenings here, but this is so stupid/ ridiculous, it is beyond belief. Heres something to think about, Thammanat is PM, has to go to another country, sorry we do not allow convicted criminals entry, how would Thailand then look?

It says in the article linked in the OP: "They add that appointing influential political “fixer” Thammanat as secretary-general relieves pressure on Palang Pracharath, as he can give the government security and tackle obstacles in its path." But hey maybe the "fixer" has never thought about that. BTW if he were to become the Kingdom's PM, then any visit to another country would be at the invitation for an official visit -- not on a tourist visa. Popular Post DLock
I do find it rather ironic that just 4 days ago, the Prime Minister Czar Cha Cha announced drugs suppression to be on the national agenda...and then this convicted drug dealer gets elected unopposed. Kids, for all intentions purposes you school career advisor was incorrect - drug dealing does lead somewhere in life... 4

Understanding where you are going with this argument as to reach the top you really need to have shooting people on your CV. Responsibility for the shooting a nurse in a Wat attending injured people is a big step in achieving that aspiration

Valid point but historically Thai PM is not really needed anywhere. They travel only for junkets. It's not like the nation is important TBH.

Cisco
Has happened before. Look up Narong Wongwan. He was essentially PM for a “minute” after the ‘92 election. The US said no visa for him due to suspected drug trafficking involvement. The State Department indicated that it would be a problem for relations. He was soon dropped. Of course, he was replaced by Suchinda and we know how that ended. 1

spidermike007
Let us hope someone from the newly formed Future Forward Party, on the level of Thanathorn comes forward. The ruling party is despised like never before. They have richly earned that hatred and disapproval. They are thugs, drug lords, and thiefs. And add to that the dismal failure of the tax program, the inability to contain Covid, and the willful sabotage of the tourism sector, and you have all the ingredients for losing a "fair election". How far out they are willing to extend themselves to secure a stolen election, remains to be seen, and so do the repercussions for such a move. The people have to make a statement, the people have to remove the 250 crony senators, and the people have to find a way to turn this nation around, and drag it back from the stone age of dinosaur leadership. Prayuth, Pratin, Anutin, Phiphat, and the mafia chief Prompow must go. These guys are toxic, corrosive, corrupt, ineffective, incompetent, untrustworthy, very bad for the nation, and virtually assure a rotten future for the nation, a drop to 75th place in GDP, and increasing irrelevance. They have already turned Thailand from the tiger of SE Asia, to a sorry, rabid, whiny, anemic alley cat.
