Thailand on Monday (June 21) reported 3,175 new COVID-19 cases and 29 additional deaths over the past 24 hours.

● 3,035 new infections
● 140 prison / prison infections

Monday’s cases bring the total number of COVID-19 infections in Thailand to 221,306 with 1,658 deaths.
(Total infections since April 1: 192,443)

The news comes as a poll has revealed that the vast majority of Thai people want the country opened to foreign tourism in 120 days.

The "Super Poll" conducted last week came after Thai PM Prayuth Chan-o-cha stated his aim to open the country up by the end of the year.

“Up the creek without a paddle would best decribe it with little chance of getting any protection through an effective vaccine - this is really a very dire situation developing especially with the government more interested in tourism than the health of the nation “

agree 100%

Thailand never wants to address issues with urgent action it’s like the Thai people just stay quiet seems lazy especially how much goes missed here .

Here is a virus so deadly you have to be tested to know you have it, and a vaccine so effective you have to be coerced into taking it.

Pretty much the same with any disease then, other wise how would you know what disease you have if you're sick?Take a wild guess and hope you're right? Here in Thailand the death rate of covid so far is slightly less than the flu was in 2005.

I do wonder how hospitals are currently coping with all the people wanting to get tested, we know they were struggling before and turning people away after they reached their daily limit and I do suspect that like the warning put out a few days ago when a Bangkok Hospital doctor was ordered to take down a facebook post about shortages of vaccines that a similar warning would also be issued if any hospitals said they were limiting tests.

Thailand logged 29 deaths and 3,175 new cases over a 24-hour period on Monday. Of the total cases, 2,089 were locals who tested positive in hospitals, 901 tested positive in proactive testing campaigns, 140 were found infected in prisons and 45 were arrivals from overseas

so we see that proactive testing is only 900.what an utter disgrace. We see that it’s walk ins that are the major components of these figures.

Only 900 of the above were through testing. The numbers being tested are disgrace, shameful. That is why the numbers are so low.

These are also weekend numbers which makes me feel very uncomfortable with what's to come. Delta variant making inroads it appears.

Only 900 proactive testing. 2,000 walk in. The government is a disgrace. There is no testing going on.

Hospitals were not able to cope when cases spiked up to 2,000 a day in April and seriously ill patients were left at home by hospitals lacking beds, resulting in at least one death.  I am not sure how this situation was resolved but now we have got over 3,000 cases a day we are not hearing about lack of capacity.

But, if we follow a similar trajectory to the UK, the Indian variant could become the predominate strain within a few weeks and cases could be ramping up to 8,000 a day, just like there.  It could be worse because because of the low level of vaccination vs the UK and the the skewed priorioritisation of large company employees and families over the elderly and vulnerable who are more likely to require hospitalisation.

Another serious concern is the unknown efficacy of Sinovac against the Indian variant.  Most front line health workers have been vaccinated with Sinovac and may need to be revaccinated with something else, if there are significant infections of people who have been fully vaccinated with Sinovac.
