webfact
At 3am this morning (Thursday), a man went on a shooting spree at the field hospital at the Princess Mother National Institute for Drug Abuse Treatment in Pathum Thani, which ended in the death of a COVID-19 patient. Prior to the incident, the suspect was at a convenience store at Lad Phrao Soi 25 in Bangkok, where he shot and killed a store clerk. He had reportedly dropped a bottle of beer, refused to pay for the damage and got into an argument with the clerk. He then grabbed a gun from his car and shot the employee. The CCTV footage shows the suspect was wearing a camouflage shirt and a red hat and his face is clearly visible. Peterw42
I really do find these incidents distressing, when its just completely innocent victims. And as usual, its a military guy (or dressing up as one) gone nuts. What do they teach these guys in the Thai military. The presenter, a Thai addressing the Thai parents, broke the ice by saying "A foreign 18-year-old will likely have a car, a girlfriend or boyfriend, a job and possibly his or her own place to live. The same holds true for Thais, but at age 35". 1 1
Caldera
As a Covid-19 patient died in the shooting, will the victim be counted as a Covid-19 death? Serious question, different countries handle this very differently (dying from Covid-19 vs. dying with Covid-19). RIP to the deceased, in any case.

snoop1130
Ex-soldier opens fire in Thai coronavirus field hospital, kills 1 A suspect is arrest by police after a shooting at a coronavirus (COVID-19) field hospital in Ranong, Thailand June 24, 2021. Dailynews via REUTERS BANGKOK (Reuters) - A former soldier fired gunshots in a coronavirus field hospital in Thailand on Thursday, killing a 54-year-old patient after earlier shooting dead a convenience store employee, police said. The suspect, 23, believed that the patients in the hospital in Pathum Thani near Bangkok were drug addicts and that he hated drug addicts, regional police chief Amphol Buarabporn told Reuters, after an initial investigation. The field hospital was once a drug rehabilitation centre and was reorganised to treat COVID-19 patients. Closed-circuit camera footage that circulated online showed the a man walking into a hospital in combat uniform and red beret brandishing a firearm. Hours earlier, the suspect shot and killed a convenience store employee in Bangkok over a dispute, Amphol said. The suspect was later arrested. Pictures of the scene at the field hospital showed broken glass in front of an area where patients were sat in their beds. In February last year, a soldier killed 29 people in a rare shooting spree at a Thai shopping mall while, which drew attention to treatment of junior military staff in Thailand. -- © Copyright Reuters 2021-06-24 - Whatever you're going through, the Samaritans are here for you - Follow Thaivisa on LINE for breaking COVID-19 updates

CharlieH
You just never know here if the person has a firearm ! People would be wise to remember that, particularly on the highways where road rage (on both sides) is common.

Not much difference to the UK then, I read a report in the BBC where it was said that over half of all prison inmates should be in a mental hospital not prison but there are too few facilities, luckily getting a firearm in the UK is difficult but there are always knives to be had as one can see almost daily in the UK news.
