webfact
PHOTO: Rak Siam News By Goong Nang(GN) Sattahip – Sattahip has considered and accepted stricter rules to control the spread of Covid -19 at a morning market in which vendors and workers must take a Covid -19 test or they will lose their contract to work at the market and be banned. For foreign workers, which is a substantial number of those at the market, this could also mean their work permits would be revoked and they would be deported. The statements came as some workers were reportedly refusing tests for various reasons, including fear of being confined to field hospitals for several weeks even if asymptomatic. Captain Monday
"Fear of being confined even if asymtomatic". For this reason my Thai and foreign friends in Chiang Mai don't use More Chana instead scribbling fake names and numbers. A demonstrated limitation of thainess.

The workers, the people that need a daily wage to live, choice.. test and starve or evade a test and work. Vaccines went to the elite first not the people that need it. law ling
Markets have long been places of concern for spreading it ... why the authorities are only just now dealing with this market ... so often the authorities here are only reactive, not pro-active.

Popular Post greenmonkey
this is Thai logic at its worst. People of course will be scared to take a test... especially the low paid immigrants... they know they will be forced into an open football field with a bucket and tarpaulin cover for comfort, in 30 degrees plus heat (if they test positive). Hospitals now stopping testing because they have run out of beds and so turning away people with/without covid. People with symptoms but no history of attending high risk areas told to pay 2000 baht for a test... so some will take the test, others will not. It's like this govt are doing their very best to screw this up. Surely you must get to a point where you see that current policy is actually counter-productive and a change in policy required... but no. I am really beginning to fear for Thailand. This govt will run it into the ground. ????

champers
Testing and vaccine coercion are becoming more commonplace globally. Whenever vaccines do become widely available in Thailand should we expect or even welcome coercion.

No, it's just typical Thai manipulation of the situation to not have to spend money. Create a disincentive for testing for those with symptoms, therefore fewer positive cases, therefore a lesser covid problem in Thailand. 11 hours ago, greenmonkey said: I am really beginning to fear for Thailand.
