Narathiwat - A soldier and a student were injured when Muslim insurgents detonated a bomb to ambush a patrol unit of soldiers in this southern border province Tuesday morning.

About 30 soldiers were patrolling a road in Tambon Borngo of Rangae district when the insurgents detonated a bomb buried on the roadside.

A student, who happened to pass the area, was injured along with a solider. They were rushed to Ranage district hospital.

Police later took a man for questioning after finding some electronic circuit boards and wires inside his house.

In Narathiwat, insurgents detonated a remote-controlled bomb when a group of soldiers, part of a teacher escort group, was patrolling. Two soldiers, aged 22 and 25, were wounded by the blast.

Police said the five-kilogramme bomb was buried under an electrical pole and was detonated when six soldiers on three motorcycles were passing the spot.
