Mid Posted June 25, 2007 Share Posted June 25, 2007 (edited) Suspected insurgent shot dead in Narathiwat June 25, 2007 : Last updated 11:54 am (Thai local time) Narathiwat - A suspected insurgent was shot dead in this southern border province by soldiers Sunday night.The unidentified insurgent was killed while exchanging gunfire with a group of soldiers in Ban Taseh Village in Tambon Sungai Padi of Sungai Padi District at 9:45 pm. Police said a group of insurgents opened fire at houses of some residents in the village and set fire to some houses. The group of soldiers, who were stationed nearby, rushed to the scene and opened fire at the insurgents. The two sides exchanged gunfire for about five minutes before the insurgents retreated. Police found the dead body of one of them and police believe some other insurgents were also injured. Colonel Acra Tiproch said the detainees, who can be kept without charge for 28 days under an emergency law, would be freed if found not to have been involved in the violence but DNA samples would be kept on record. Mid Posted June 25, 2007 Author Share Posted June 25, 2007 More schools torched, security tightened in restive south YALA June 25 (TNA) - The latest arson attack occurred at Bantaladlammai school in the provincial seat of Yala early Monday, destroying two classrooms.The police believe that the arson was the work of presumed insurgents who broke into the school as security personnel were changing shifts during the night.
