To see or download mini-video, go to http://www.thaisnews.com/news_detail.php?newsid=214147 The resolution for garbage and waste water problems on the Phi Phi and Lanta islands of Krabi need to start with local community awareness and participation. The Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Kasem Sanitvongse Na Ayudhaya stressed that during his inspection trip to Krabi where he was briefed on the issues, its problems and their operation. The minister instructed the Department of Environment Quality Promotion to educate and seek public participation in waste separation as it is the core factor. It needs to be tackled alongside the garbage generated from fishing and tourists boats he said. Mr. Kasem also assigned the provincial authority to hold a meeting with local hoteliers and businesses to raise their awareness and participation in appropriate garbage and waste water management. Both islands are tourist resorts and facing waste management problems.
