Flood warning issued

PHUKET: As a low-pressure trough is expected to cause heavy rains over the weekend, the Southern Meteorological Center (West Coast) has issued a flash-flood warning for Phuket, Phang Nga, Krabi, Ranong and Trang.

Those living in areas at the base of hills are at particular risk.

All ships should travel with caution, the warning reads.

Phuket Gazette

In Krabi, freak storms and heavy rains on Thursday damaged more than 20 houses in Muang district.

Strong winds also ripped off the roofs of more than 20 houses in tambon Krabi Noi in the same district.

The provincial disaster prevention and mitigation office brought construction materials to affected villagers to help repair their homes. Damage was initially estimated at 300,000 baht.

The weather forecast bureau has told residents in several areas in Krabi to prepare for more heavy rain, and flash floods over the next three days.
