That picture taken in the year 2501 (in Thai calender), 49 years ago.

That's a long time to wait. But if it happens again then it's worth the wait.

I love snowfalls.

You love snow??? What the **** are you doing in Thailand :D

It snowed in Miami about 1977-8.

It has snowed in lots of places, but as long as we're off topic, I was there in Miami, I think it was Dec 29, 1977. I still have the Miami Herald from the next morning with all the photos.

It snowed in Miami about 1977-8.

I remember being at my school bus stop in Boca Raton, A little north of Miami, and it started snowing! When we arrived at school, they sent us all home because the school had no heaters! The snow didn't stick, only collected in corners. Just enough to make a few snow balls.

That storm devistated the plants, palms and vegtables. A few days after the storm, EVERYTHING was dead! It took years to bring it back. I hope it never comes to Thailand.

Snow?

Bangkok?

NEVER say never - ha!

Would be nice to have snow during this time of the year though. It's the thing about x'mas and New Year's snowflake that completes the seasons greeting.

Detroit now it's 10' - brrrrrrrrr :o

I left Brownsville, in the southernmost tip of Texas :o, where my daughters live, because the winters are just too freakin' cold. Once a century, they have about one centimeter of snow!

Does it snow on places like Doi Inthanon? I thought I saw photos of that a couple of years ago. I worked with a teacher who taught there, and I think she said it sometimes snowed, maybe once in a couple years.

I like the winter here....sunny, shorts.....nice temperature....okay the nights are cold, but during the day time it is nice. No snow please!

wouldn't it be fun to watch Thais drive in snow and ice covered roads!

Whahaha, no it would not.....the average Thai cannot drive even without snow.... :o

I bet they stay close to heaters and hardly move to drive.

Yes, Ulysses, you were right.

I was there when it happened in the early morning. :o I think it was on Monday when hubby went out to the car around 7:30 AM, the car was covered in thin layer of snowflakes. :D

Next day it was on the front page of Miami Herald. People snatched up to keep as a souvernior.

  • 3 years later...

I could swear I read somewhere, about five years ago, about a Scandinavian guy up in CM/CR area who returned home drunk one night, couldn't get indoors and was found dead from exposure the next day. BUT I can't find any trace of the story. Maybe I dreamed it.

Not so many years ago it were harsh times

in the 'coffee mountains' of Doi Chang.

It was really icy ...

Doi Chang is about thirty kilometer south of

Chiang Rai town and is named after a mountain

ridge there that is shaped like an elephant.

Several years ago Canadian John Darch and khun

Wicha Promjong developed and promoted the coffee

brand with the name Doi Chang.

That was a hail storm Limbo. I'll look for more photos of that event and post it here.

I can remember the same story , in the Bangkok Post probably. Struck me at the time as unusual in someone from a colder climate dying from cold in a tropical country.

Cheers

That's right Toybits and I'm looking forward to see your

pictures. I found this one in the Doi Chang restaurant/resort.

The one with the terrace with the great view ...

Out of precaution I used the word 'icy' already :D .

As far as I'm informed also the more than fifty year old pictures

that Konjianghai shared with us are all about hail. I don't doubt

a second that he knows ;)

I'm sure there will be a specialist among our ranks who knows more

about this, but my guess would be that snow is formed in lower aerial

layers than hail.

Is the marble-sized hail of this area pointing in the direction of

a longer fall and thus being from 'higher origin'?

Sure is that if you are building a house you better use the

6 mm chang quality roofing that is said to be hail-proof.

The 5 mm, especially after some years, is certainly not the

better choice as many who chose it regretfully would agree.

Anyhow: take tiles for better temperature regulation ...
