“Service with Smile” principle for district officials

BANGKOK: -- The government has ordered district officials across the country to improve their service to the public.

All district or Umpur officials have been instructed to strictly follow the “service with a smile” principle when dealing with inquiries and the presentation of documents.

Officials will also be required to wear “Umpur…smile” badges to help remind them that their jobs are to serve the people, the chief of the Provincial Administration Department, Sucharit Patchimnand told journalists.

District offices throughout the country will meet once a month among officials to evaluate the quality of their services.

This move is part of the government’s strategy to reform the bureaucracy and make it more efficient and accessible to people.

Government’s officials have received further training. They have all been instructed to make the public the centre of their service.

If you made them work a decent 42 hour week, let them have time with their families on the weekends and paid them fairly for overtime, I am sure they would smile.

One problem may be is that there are too many directors in district offices pushing their staff beyond their limits just so that they can keep their jobs. So how are the juniors suppose to smile and work when they have no choice because they cannot get work elsewhere?
