Images Of Chiang Mai

Recommended Posts

I've just did some house keeping to clean up the pinned topics here and in the FAQ sub forum. Actually the link to this topic is already in the pinned Chiangmai Information topic but have now separated it out.

Thanks. That makes it easier to find. I stumbled through several forums and got myself lost. Kan Win had a few beautiful photos of Doi Suthep in the rain... besides others.

Nice to see those old photos, Ajarn. Thanks.

Some of you might recognize this place, but it's nowhere close to Chiang Mai...

ajarn, you on the boat, what was in the blue bag, or was it some personal infection you dont want to talk about, which is very understandable....some good old pics there.

We were in a canoe, not much storage space. To snap a pic of me, I had to hold my bag to give her room :)

Thank you 'Tywais' for pinning this topic in the correct place. I have tried to get this topic pinned for many a year, job done now. :D

Thailand is always noted for its festivals. I especially like Loi Katong (spelling?) festival in November. It usually comes around the time of my birthday. The gals all dress up in beautiful silk clothing and the lanterns fill the sky...

Of course, those with property nearby don't like all the dead lanterns that land on their place later... And, I'm sure there is more than one fire started by an errant lantern going astray.

Because I only have one hand I can use, and I can't walk, all pictures are taken from my drivers seat in my truck :)

I love this one, Ajarn. It leaves you wondering what is around the corner. The angles are all correct and the curving road sort of tells a story. Did you scan the photos off slide film or off old negatives? There is always a difference between scanned film and digital.

What were all those people fishing for, Ajarn? There sure are a lot of them in a small area.

Most often it's just a few anglers with a number of rods out waiting for something to bite.

Luk_Kae_river_Kwai_1.jpg

I enjoy fishing, but don't have the patience to wait for hours hoping something will bite. I prefer casting to fish that I know are there.

At some places for sure. In my shot, taken near Phrao is a small village with not too many places to fish and socialize, so it is a 'group' activity more than the standard 'alone' activity.

Although I have dozens of photos of Chaing Mai and its temples, I don't have many that I think are all that artistic. They are just pictures of local sites with not particulary interesting lighting or dynamic composition.

However, I did like these photos of a temple in Kanchanaburi and Ratchaburi.

Kanchanaburi_temple_8.jpg

Temple bells always make a great photo subject if you get the correct lighting.

I spent some time in May at Chiang Mai. It rained a bit as can be seen from my photo. I must say it was a really nice time, I liked the place a lot and it was great to see somewhere other than Bangkok or the usual resort places I seem to end up all the time, nice people too.

Makes one realise that there is more to Thailand than work in Bangkok or quick breaks to Cha am, Phuket et al.

I know its no work of art but here is a pic for the collection.

Edit....it wont upload my picture, even the computer is a critic.

wink.gif, i'm gonna visit chiang mai with my boyfriend next month, any suggestion for an interest places to go or thing to do there? smile.gif

There is so much there to see it's difficult to say,

1) Doi Suthep ( Important temple on the mountain)

2) Old City, within the ruined walls - no need for a guide just walk and explore it's fantastic.

3) Night Bazzar - a bit touristy but worth a look ( I have just realised I cannot spell bazzar!)

4) (no experience) Flight of the gibbon - never heard a bad report but have not done it yet.

5) Muay Thai - in Loi Kroi Road and Moon Muang road - I think the later is the real deal

6) Bars & clubs - if you are youngish Nimmahinan road - if a little bit older Loi Kroi road.

thats a starter for you.... tons more when you arrive! have fun
