TAT reveal final figures for tourists to Phuket in 2007, showing an overall 11% increase.

The Tourism Authority of Thailand’s region 4 office have just revealed to Andaman News their official figures for tourist visitors in 2007 to Phuket province under their responsibility. They show just over 5 million visitors to Phuket or 11.25% more than 2006. Their average length of stay increased to 4.71 days compared to 4.52 in 2006. Their average expenditure also increased to 4186 baht up 6.32%, bringing in revenue of over 94 billion baht. The figures were mainly based on 628 hotels with 37,543 rooms reporting nearly 66% average occupancy. Among those were Thai visitors up only 0.5% at 1,072,586 , next in order were the Australians up 31% at 345,641 , British up 34% at 282,309, Swedish up 6% at 228,746, Koreans down 6% at 224,133 , Germans up only 0.79% at 173,480, Chinese up 8% at 168,707, Russians up nearly 41% at 122,419, and Japanese up only 0.76% at 115,751. The remaining nationalities were less than 100,000 each.

I don't believe the numbers, no special reason why other than they were compiled by TAT.
