More than 100 volunteers for tourist police, Thais and foreigners, were added to the force to assist tourists of different nationalities who visit the resort island of Phuket. After chairing a training session for the volunteers, Phuket Vice Governor Worapote Ratasrima explained that Phuket has to cater for around 5 million tourists per year, but only 30 tourist police are on duty on the island, so qualified and trained volunteers are added to enhance their operations. The vice governor also points out that the volunteers cover almost every language except Russian and Swedish. He however assured that all volunteers’ backgrounds are thoroughly checked.

Hmm, I was at this 'training' session and this report is not accurate. No more foreign tourist police volunteers have been added to the force... The existing small team of foreign volunteers already have 2 Swedish nationals and access to a Russian translator.
