Minivdos: Phuket Donations For Cyclone & Earthquake Victims

The Thai–Nepalese Club, led by its chairman Panupong Limbuprasertkul, handed over supplies and commodities worth over 400,000 baht to Phuket Governor Nirund Kalayanamit to pass on for relief for the Nargis cyclone victims in Myanmar. Mr. Nirund said the supplies will be sent to the bordering province of Ranong, then to the nearby Burmese island of Koh Song. He further stated that people who wish to contribute to the supplies, among which in high demand are rice, dry food and drinking water, they can contact the provincial Disaster Prevention and Mitigation office.

Chinese decedents associations, clubs and foundations in Phuket are collecting donations from the public to send for relief packages for earthquake victims in China. Just yesterday the group went along four main roads in the city where people donated money for the unfortunate people. All donations will be presented to the Chinese Consulate General in Songkhla to pass on to China. Donors can make contributions at Kusoltham Foundation in the heart of Phuket City.

Interview with Admiral Supot Pruksa, Commander of the Royal Thai Navy 3rd Fleet, based in Phuket, and also 'Daniel' Phanuphong Limbuprasertkul, Chairman of the Thai Nepalese Association Phuket, after the Royal Thai Navy held a ceremony on Tuesday to transport donated goods for Burmese cyclone victims with 10 tonnes of supplies donated by various groups, including the Thai Nepalese Association & Thai Red Cross. We had a chance to talk to Commanders of visiting US Navy ships: Commander Bruce Lindsey, of USS Dubuque, a transport ship, Commander Thomas Disy of USS Benfold, a destroyer ship, plus Captain Walter Bruce Watson, Jr, the Naval Attache at the US Embassy in Bangkok. The 3 US Navy ships also including the USS Pearl Harbor, cargo ship, are now near the Deep Sea Port Phuket until 8 June. After the Commanders made a courtesy call on Admiral Supot Pruksa, Royal Thai Navy 3rd Fleet in Phuket, they told us they were not carrying supplies for Burmese cyclone victims but are capable of delivering by hovercraft if required. They are also helping at Phuket Special School for handicapped, painting buildings & giving gifts today at 4pm. First they explained more about their ships: …….
