The company’s External Relations Manager Mr.Sidhichai Jayant said the company plans to start the exploration at the end of this year with about 5.5 million US dollar funding. He said the seismic survey would take around 3 years, and after that drilling which should take around 5-6 years. He further stated that local benefits would be taxed and that it would enable Thailand to have more energy sources. On the local side, Prateep Na Thalang, chairman of a local fishing group in Chalong, said they do not oppose the project, but suggest a wide range of publicity so that people can learn of the operation. LiveSteam
I used to know a few drillers and tool pushers who worked in the Gulf of Siam in the late 70’s and early 80’s I think from Union Oil that told me that because the concession was only to find natural gas that’s all they would look for but sometimes or most the time they told me that oil was everywhere and they would cap it and move on with the secret GPS location in their possession.
