george Posted November 18, 2004 Share Posted November 18, 2004 Phuket receives anti-terrorist equipment from US PHUKET: -- Thailand's southern famous resort island of Phuket has received anti-terrorist equipment from the US government. "The equipment is part of a training programme granted by the US government to upgrade the Thai police's ability to deal with international terrorists," said Deputy Commissioner of the Provincial Police Region 8 Pol Maj. Gen Phuvadol Krasae-int. Police from the country's southern coastline resort provinces of Phuket, Pagn-nga, Krabi, and Surat Thani, which are wellknown to tourists, joined in the recent training course. "Terrorists are a threat to peace in the society. They often target attacks on western tourist attractions. Although there is no indication of any terrorism in the area, Thai police should be ready for the situation," he said.
