Its predecessor ' wicked ' was bad enough. Hmm I don't use the word awesome, but sometimes I say wicked... does that mean I'm not cool? No, it means you're from Maine. My son spent a lot of time there, and he hipped me to it (seriously, but joke to follow). It means you're a cool guy from Maine if you use it instead of awesome. Talking of wicked and Germans reminds me that during the second world war the word ' wizzard ' was used with pretty well the same meaning. Everytime some poor kraut got the lead it was always described as a ' wizzard prang ' . Luckily the war was won in spite of this . Awesome ! Words lose their meaning when used poorly or incorrectly. Bad spellings and punctuation bother me more than poor use of words. Supercallifagilisticexpialodicious - now, there's a cool word.
