Flood warning for lower South

BANGKOK: -- The Royal Irrigation Department (RID) has issued a warning that heavy rain is expected in Thailand's lower South over the next couple of day due to the influence of a tropical storm covering the Gulf of Thailand and the country's southern region.

The RID said that some areas in the country's southern region could also face flash floods and high tides caused by the heavy rain.

In making preparations to cope with the possible flash floods in Nakhon Si Thammarat Province, a Royal-sponsored development project in the province's Pak Panang district has decided to open and close its water gates in line with the rise and fall of the water tides.

People in the southern area, however, are warned to be alert and well-prepared to the anticipated heavy rain and possible flash floods.
