The 1st planes wrecks for the artificial reef were lowered into the sea at Bangtao.

The Dakota plane wreck D2was the first sunk beneath the ocean surface near Koh Waew or Waew island off Bang Tao bay in Thalang district of Phuket on Monday. It took workers about 40 minutes to place the first plane on the sea bed for the artificial reef. After it was put on the sea bed, ten divers, Thais and foreigners worked together to secure her with the underwater base to prevent here from being moved by strong currents. The operation yesterday managed to sink only one plane. The rest will be gradually placed on the sea bed with the last one scheduled with a big ceremony on Saturday November 29th. The operation was witnessed by media, Thai and foreign. D1 Dakota, which is considered the leader of the squadron, will be the final plane to be submerged.
