PHUKET may be an island playground for the rich, but among the locals it is better known as a playground for the young, especially on Children's Day this Saturday.

A chance to scramble on a big navy ship is just one of the highlights of the many events planned around the island.

All events are free of charge.

The Royal Thai Navy is holding its annual Children's Day festival at the Deep Sea Port in Wichit from 8.30am-4pm. Vessels, including a royal boat, will be open for children to board, as well as a helicopter and parachute display. Look for demonstrations about sea safety, musical performances and student shows. Kids can also take a sail trip around Promthep Cape aboard the Songkhla. Small gifts and free drinks will be available, and the Army will hold an artillery show.

Phuket International Airport With Thai Airways, Air Asia and Bangkok Airways, the airport is holding a festival from 8.30am-3pm. Among the highlights will be performances of HM the King's songs, picture drawing contests and aircraft displays. There will also be parachute shows and a fighter jet airshow, as well as firefighting demonstrations. Entrance is free, with free food and drink. Children of airport staff and local students will put on dancing shows.

Many organizations in Phuket arrange activities for Children’s Day this Saturday.

Thailand Children’s Day falls on the second Saturday of January each year and this year it falls on January 10th. Many organizations in Phuket arrange activities for kids to enjoy their day. Starting from the Deep Sea Port where the Royal Thai Navy joins hands with public and private organizations to open its Royal ships – Chao Phraya and Songkhla ships for kids and their families to visit. Helicopter and parachutes will be on display along with many games and shows. The location is one of the day’s most popular on the island. If you are residing in Wichit sub-district near Chalong, the local government there also arrange many fun-filled and educational activities for kids to celebrate on Children’s day. Another interesting location is in Kathu where activities will be organized at Prince of Songkhla University with many games, free food and fun-filled activities. We are also informed by Radio Thailand in Phuket that this year they join hands with the Rasada Municipality to arrange activities for Children’s day. These are just some examples of the locations.

We will have more places to recommend before Saturday (& comments from children/students on Thursday/Friday's program - we always welcome children/students who wish to visit NBT TV studio at Rang Hill on weekdays, especially those who want to talk on camera!)

VDO - News Children's Day in Phuket

http://thainews.prd.go.th/newsenglish/prev...php?news_id=895

Saturday January 10th was national Childrens Day for Thailand when children across the nation enjoyed free activities and privileges on their big day. Phuket was also a busy location where children took part in many events. Our reporter Zenniesha captured the atmosphere in some of the venues.

At a public park on Patong beach, local children and foreign tourists enjoyed games, stage performances, free food and drinks plus prizes which the Patong Municipality arranged for children of any nationality. The prizes included bicycles and thousands of dolls. Another activity which drew a lot of the younger participants attention was model rock climbing. It was similar at a big shopping mall like Jungceylon in Patong where kids enjoyed the Kids Fun Fair where the young participants enjoyed contests, colouring, computer games and Hula Hoops. Going to the south side of Phuket at Cape Panwa, parents took their children to visit the Aquarium which opened free for visitors under 15 years old. Outside the aquarium the visitors also enjoyed games and activities with several prizes. Another popular location was the Phuket Deep seaport where children were provided with an opportunity to explore on board the Royal Thai Navy Ships Chao Phraya and Songkhla. Some of them were so lucky to be taken around to appreciate views of the island in the afternoon. Meanwhile at Phuket Provincial Hall Governor Preecha Rungjan opened his room to allow kids to sit in his chair while many activities were arranged in the provincial hall compound. Further at Saphan Hin children also enjoyed many activities arranged by the Office of Phuket City.

Another location was the Rasada Municipality office which was turned into a fun theme park with many educational and fun-filled activities including a model radio studio by Radio Thailand in Phuket. It provided opportunities for children to pretend to be news casters or DJs. Other activities included puppet shows.
