Just look how many people reading this topic..I noticed the nation in its headline didn't mention the 7 thais involved.

I wonder who turned them in, surely not the hotel, unless it is looking to be headline sleeze news around the world.

I would have assumed that is the case. So that is why it somewhat surprises me that so many seem to feel the necessity to chime in and let everyone know their wife is the paraqon of virtue.

When I am with a Thai woman, I don't find it necessary to let everyone know about her degrees or job just to show I didn't meet her in a bar. I assume most people either don't care, or if they do, they would assume we are just a rather ordinary couple.

I might be missing something here. Who was arrested for what? Was the crime operating a business without a license or something? If they were arrested for disturbing the other hotel guests were they warned beforehand? Are parties that include sex illegal, or does one have to charge as does the prostitutes to make it acceptable although still illegal? Was there a building code violation because the room couldn't sustain the weight and poundings on the floor/walls etc? So you have friends up the a$$, why do the police have to get involved and the people that cum here with money to spend get reamed? What the phlock? <_<

The charges against the organizers may have stemmed from the language of the laws against procuring for purposes of prostitution or brothel-keeping. Thai statutes tend to be vaguely written and the police have a lot of latitude in investigations and arrests. Whether one faces formal charges, indefinite remand and a public trial or buys their way into the less embarrassing option of anonymous deportation is another matter. Clearly the RTP saw a chance to make a nice profit and some shiny social-order/traditional-values headlines and took it. A pitiful waste of manpower and resources when there are far more pressing matters needing attention.

I really like the Thai people, but their public servants have to be the biggest hypocrites on this planet. Probably the majority of their tourism is based around the sex industry, in fact, its their biggest claim to fame. Mention to anyone in farang land that you're going to Thailand and you get the nudge nudge wink wink 'I know what you're up to' look. Sex is the big attraction of Pattaya, Bangkok, Phuket etc and the authorities must realise this, its been the same for donkey's years. So why do they try to make out that they're outraged when something like this happens? It's the same as the censorship in the movies and on the tv when you only have to walk past a girlie bar to see far worse. It must be this 'face' thing where you pretend to be something on the outside, but everyone knows that you think the exact opposite, but they can't say anything because its against the rules of 'face'.

I also notice that the article mentioned the name of the husband, but not the Thai wife. She is the actual organizer of the events, not him.

Yes, way too much judgement in this thread. Get over yourselves guys.

could not agree more - talk about a storm in a tea cup -- we seem to be shifting from the swinging party to defending the virtues of being married to a thai --- COME ON GUYS - EASE UP AND SEE THIS TOPIC FOR WHAT IT IS - just some news worthy item - break up another dull day in LOS just because farang were involved --

There have been rumors amongst some people who enjoy this kind of lifestyle that the organizer in question sometimes brings in professional women to try and even up the male-to-female ratio. I don't know if this is true, but if so, that could result in legal charges, if I am not mistaken. But then again, as other posters have pointed out, how is that different from the other vast numbers of sexually explicit establishments in the country?

From what I read, the organizers will be charged for advertising the parties on the Internet.

It seems like Thai authorities have an obsession with Internet.

A few days ago there was a report about the police trying to stop prostitution on the Internet. Compared to the street, I think there are very little prostitution going on online. Why target the Internet?

Until recently all the websites of gogo bars were blocked, but apparently keeping the bars open is not a problem.

understandably, the hotel management were worried, i imagine the orgy was disturbing other guests (noises), probably stains all over the upholstery .............................

And here is the exact reason I have a no sex tourist policy as well as occupancy limits in all of the apartments.

Imaging having to clean that room afterwards and worse still, imagine being the next guest in there.

The guy at the front desk should have thought something was up when a group of 10+ people were all heading up to the same room. With 7 ladies I am guessing that the wait to use the only bathroom and shower was over an hour.

I wonder if the Police were hands on regarding and 'stiffs' they found :o

It makes you wonder though. Having a party, a bit of fun and frivolity is now against the law? Maybe they should have given the police a freebie or preferably a stiffy.

Uh, thanks but no thanks guys!!!!!

I just think for 13 middle age overweight men, sweating crowded over each other, used condoms, etc etc :o:D

It was the wife who did all the advertising and organized the parties, so if it is illegal to advertise, then it is she who should be charged, not he husband who generally just went along for the ride. However, after reading her ad. what exactly was written that was illegal?

And then why were the partygoers arrested? Other posters have written that the foreigners will be blacklisted from returning to Thailand. Are they actually being charged with anything?

Police bust swinging party, arrest 13 foreign men

BANGKOK: -- Police raided a swinging party in a Bangkok hotel late Wednesday night and arrested 13 foreign men, seven Thai women and three foreign women.

The raid took place at 0:15 am Thursday at the Elizabeth Hotel on Praditpat Road in Samsen district.

Police also arrested a couple - Christian Richards and his Thai wife, for allegedly organising the swinging sex tour.

When police raided the room No 1101 on the 11th floor of the hotel, police found several couples were having sex in the same room while others were drinking and dancing.

Police found used condoms, lubricant gel, porno books and CDs and 30 pills of Viagra.

Briton charged in Thailand for organising 'swinging' parties

BANGKOK, Feb 5, 2009 (AFP) - A British man was charged in Thailand Thursday for organising so-called 'swinging' parties during which couples swap sexual partners, tourist police said.

Christian Arthur Richards, 54, was arrested early Thursday along with six Thais and 16 foreigners including US, French, Indian, and Chinese citizens at one of the parties in a Bangkok hotel.

Tourist police commander Colonel Archayon Kraithong said Richards advertised the orgies on his website, and then charged 3,000 baht for couples and singles to participate.

"He is under interrogation, but has been charged with procurement and commercial sex advertisements, which could land him 10 years jail term or a fine of up to 20,000 baht," Archayon told AFP.

The 22 participants from Thailand, China, India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, France, the United States and Australia were all released after paying fines of up to 1,000 baht, Archayon added.

Richards, who is married to a Thai woman, is alleged to have organised at least 100 swinging parties in Bangkok and the seamy resort town of Pattaya over the last three years.

Although prostitution is officially illegal in Thailand, the kingdom has a reputation for its sleazy bars and explicit sex shows, and the sex tourism industry here is believed to employ hundreds of thousands of Thais.

Archayon said there were no prostitutes at the swinging party.

==================================================

Perhaps a thread title change with the nationality of the organizer and the higher number of arrested is in order.... :D

I didn't know it was against the law to have sex behind closed doors. When did they introduce the no sex please we are thai policy. No sex in thailand, 1st the demos at the airport now a ban on sex the thai economy is going to be in real bad shape without the sex tourists comming. What is going to happen to places like Pattaya. I am married to a thai and living in chiangmai just hope I don't get that knock on the door in the middle of the night.

:o I doubt it was for the sex. However, although you and I know the real situation, prostitution is still illegal in Thailand. I doubt that the "party" was free of charge to the men at least....and that's what got them the jail time. Also for being to stupid to pay of the BIB and the hotel management. (Oh no, that never happens).

A couple of years ago I was in the Thai business class lounge in Athens, waiting fo a flight. Two women and one man (all British) were discussing making arrangements for a "get-together" in Bangkok. They seemed to have a Thiland contact they were arranging things with. Both the women were stunning, looked like high class call girls. Hmm...I wonder...coincidence?

:D

P.S. I sent this before reading the other posts. Now it's really interesting that he WAS British. (See 2nd paragraph)

23 ppl entered one room in very "Thai" hotel, so what they expect to happen? I believe the staff suspected a drug party and send the cops upstairs. Get a private house next time...:-)

That is an ongoing event for many years, taking place every two weeks at the same hotel from what I heard. I cannot see anything wrong in that either, the organizers do not even take sizable profits out of it, just cover their expenses for hotel, food and drinks. I wonder what the charges will be.

It looks like "Having sex in the same room" was the offense. :o

There are three reasons that this party group was not in the good light of other couples who enjoy each other's company.

One was the number of single men who attended, one was the rumor of "professional" women, and one was the fees being charged, which goes against the unwritten lifestyle policy.

Both couples and single men are charged an entrance fee, ostentiously for the food and drink. But a single man pays far more than a couple, so I guess single men eat and drink more than a couple??? So no, the party would not have been free-of-charge. But on a legal note, is it prostitution if the people actually doing the activities do not receive any compensation? Is it prostitution if the people receiving the compensation merely provide a venue for like-minded adults to play?

It seems by the posting very few guys who use this web site have the faintest idea of these parties

Chris and Duang have been running them for the last 3 years and they do not use small rooms like the media stated, most of the times they use double room suites with a balcony, the atmosphere is good and and it is not a sweat pit

Regular clients from Phuket and ex pats that live local attend and all you do is ring and they gve you a room number, Sex Tourism, give me a break, seems to me someone got stuck into the grog left over

Te hotels know exactly what is going on and chris will work out the number of guests before hand and inform house keeping who supply enough towels to cater

when you get to the hotel just tell the bell boy or lift driver your going to the party on the 11th floor and they will direct you.

I would say its someone who can not put on a party to equal that has put in a complaint

As it is a rule that enough girls be present, girls come from the bars to fill in, very few join in the sex fun as they are only used to 1 on 1, but the number look good and they get a free feed

This is not the first time this has happened a swinger resort in Undan Thani was closed down 2 years ago

by the police

Condons are a must at these parties, and many people attend just to watch,

Facts are uptill now few people knew these parties existed

Now with the help of the police they will be well know

Swingers parties have been going on in every country in the world for over 20 years if not more

Maybe the police just want to bring them more to the publics attention so they can make some money

while we are on the subject

What about the Garden of Eden in Bangkok

Where 1 girl one guy is banned

ooops maybe I have already said to much

I wish Chris and Duang the best from this Thai stupidity, and I know this will not be the end,

***urls deleted--sbk***

etc etc etc

After Googling the Elizabeth Hotel; reading reviews and lookin' at the pix, I think someone would have to try pretty hard to have picked a worse hotel for the type of activities described.

As an aside; even the nefarious Nana Hotel will only let a person take 3 girls to their room at a time. Although I don't know the reasoning behind how they came to that number.

Must be because the rooms aren't large enough to accomodate more and it's (more than likely) a violation of the fire safety ordinances :o:D

Well, here in MHS, there is an area known for providing drugs to man farang. But it is also known by the locals that they get money for notifying the police of people buying drugs in that area. So, they know a good deal when they see one.

Also, I have been doing a lot of traveling outside of BKK/Chonburi/South Islands and I am not seeing any prostitution. What I do see here are foreigners without shirts, driving like they are on speed with a motorcycle in the quiet streets of Pai, and people driving with cigarettes in one hand and a beer in the other hand. I had a beer last night for the first time in months, it was a big Chang, and I had it with dinner in my home. I fell asleep after about 3/5 of the beer. I called a friend and asked why it made me so tired, while I watch folk sit on the streets and drink beer after beer. She told me: "because they are drunks." Now that I am trying to stop drinking, and I sit here at my computer with TEA, and not alcohol, I find that alcohol really does affect me, even a little bit.

Another thing I am realizing is that those who drink alot actually DO HAVE behavior changes, and mood swings, and they, their memories, their anger, they behavior is quite unpredicatable, as are thier mouths.

In Thailand, social is everything, and a lot of these manthet forget why they are called "farang."

I can see this happing, more and and more and more.

Also, I have had good relationships with the police. The police here are skilled at running a police state, unlike most of the rest of the world. We should be learning from their skills, including their skills in taking bribes.

When I was in Cambodia, I met a policeman who had been called by one friend to witness an accident, when he arrived, he realized the other victim was also a friend. I was invited to dinner. There was a very big dinner. The policeman told me I could order whatever I wanted, because they were both his friends and since he couldn't lose a friendship, both were paying for dinner and the table (which was fairly large) was full of men eating and drinking and the two guys who had been in the accident were now friends as both were now paying the cop via dinner, and we could eat anything we wanted, and the food was incredible! But, as I understand it, no money was to go to the cop, just a very painful dinner check so that they learned not to put him in this situation again. Both of the men at dinner seemed to be happy with the solution, but I guess they both had to pay for their car repairs now.

Jokes aside, sounds like an aids fest to me..... :D

Ever heard about condoms ?

Ever heard of condoms breaking?

Yes of course....and unfortunately, this happens even when having sex anywhere else than a Swinging party.....So, in my opinion, not more "aids festival" than any other kind of protected sex...

Yes,but multiple partners that you know nothing about increases your chances dramatically, but i'm not here to get into a fight with you,so too each there own. :o

This topic has seemingly opened the cages, "Let loose the Dogs of War". :D :D :D:wai:
