actually, i am rather glad the sex party got busted.

a few years back i stayed with my family at the soi 33 novatel, and all night long all we could hear were moanings and thumpings from the next door sex tourist. my wife complained to the desk the next morning and just got a shrug in return.

that was just one couple.... i can image the soundtrack from 23 ppl...

i believe in the 'States, the justification for police entering would it would be disturbing the peace... maybe the circumstances they witnessed added charges of pimping, prostitution, and drugs...

it's nice to know that these cops weren't on the take, at least in this instance...

Yes, I am very sorry about that, I will try to be more quiet next time :o:D

I wonder what was illegal about what these people were doing. They appeared to be all adults, they used condoms (wonderful), they used viagra which is not an illegal drug, and they were executing their activities not in public but in a room with the door closed (I hope). Can anyone tell me what the charges were? And why were only the men arrested? What did the police do to these poor fellows? Did they put them on a boat and tug them out to sea and had them drift to Indonesia?

I guess now I have to flush all my condoms through the toilet and send my 13 naked dancing boys home and have unprotected sex with my husband who can't get it up without viagra. Poor me.

I pity the partygoers but not the organizers/owners. I am not really concerned with this East vs West stuff or the moral issues but the fact is that they were running an illegal for-profit business for years and I doubt they were paying taxes. They could get the two for tax evasion alone.

If you're a foreigner who wants to run a business in Thailand, you really need to be careful of what you get into. Running an illegal business in a sensitive, uh, sector and not paying taxes (and the police), while openly promoting your business on the internet is a bad idea.

It really was just a matter of time. They promoted their business in the personals section of Craigslist and who knows where else. That's against the terms of use and something that pisses off most of its users. The tip may have come from someone there who was tired of the spam.

It was a good money earner for them while it lasted, with very little work involved. Still, the easiest money is often the most dangerous.

Interesting. I WAS a member of Chris & Duang's yahoo group, though i never attended a party.

Apparantly one of the many member rules was that you had to say if you entered Thailand.

I subsequently flew into Thailand, but knowing i had a pretty busy schedule & therefor little or no chance of getting to a party, i didn't bother to mention i'd arrived into the Kingdom.

Next thing, a few days later i gets an email saying that I have failed to abide by group rules by not telling them of my arrival & that if i didn't have a damned good reason, i would be removed from the group.

I was rather shocked at the implications of this......... surely, can only be a mole at airport immigration!? with all group member's names flagged up. How else could they possibly know i had entered Thailand?

I did intend to follow this up, but got busy with other things & never did.

I'm not condoning these peoples' behaviour but it's pretty piss poor that the police bust people doing things behind closed doors. Why don't they try clearing the streets of the ugly, doped up monstrosities (read hookers) that blight the landscape between sois 3 and 5 on sukhumwit? Why is there no police presence near the tourist areas at night when people are being robbed, pickpocked and harassed, particularly near Asok BTS station? I guess by that time they're all getting pleasantly pissed on their ill-gotten gains!

well, consenting adults, what's the prob.? This should have at least done it , in a better place, they are after the farangs lately

What, a better place, like on the beach at Pattaya? Its a hotel, people gather in rooms all the time. Perhaps they would of been better off having adjoining rooms or something like that.

shock horror!!!! We didn't ALL marry bar girls.........hel_l,some of us even married ladies with an education and a good job......... :o

Considering this is Thailand, and it's becoming more evident that Thai university women can be loose as gooses (got to keep buying that whitening cream and cutest tiniest new mobile phones, etc.), then bolstering the prudence factor of one's wife by boasting about her U. degree may not carry the credence one might hope it would.

Re; the busted get-together, all it would take is one jilted or jealous woman to call the cops - and spoil the revelers' debauchery.

I love the answers here. Thanks for the laugh. There is so much hypocracy in everything involved with this situation that it is hard to know where to begin. :o:D:D

That is about all I can reply or the thread would be deleted. Or, at least my post would be. :D

Their mistake was not paying for sex, when it's free, between consenting adults- it's illegal, immoral, etc.

When it's your daughter marrying " farang" for money or selling sex working at the girlie bar....it's OK

HorseDoctor, you hit it on the head.!

Did you write any email to the group or them from inside Thailand.

Did you visit the group webpage from within Thailand.

Bl00dy h€ll, the men outnumbered the women by 30%? What on earth is the point?

I thought the same at first, then I thought a bit more, they could have got by with 7 women, or even 5 but that would have been stretching it.

About 3 years ago I remember some young foreigners organised a "naked party" at the Sukhothai's suite, where entrance was free but stepping through the door you were lead into a changing area to get naked, before entering the suite and getting your drink. A Thai female friend of a friend attended this party not knowing (supposedly!) the rules and peeped in the room to see some handsome toned fellows outnumbered by an invited 15 naked girls. She didn't stay, most likely felt inadequate. Sometimes wonder if they ever had another though...

Talking about sex crimes and orgies, the police might also be interested to visit my condo complex to check up on a Thai businessman in the act too. The 40-something chap dashes in at lunchtime 4 times per week without fail (in his Versace and Benz) to meet two different Uni girls every time, sometimes with an agent to introduce him. He has his 2 minute whisky then sends the girls up to his rented serviced apartment (70K per month in which he doesn't use, bar these liaisons) via a different route. Every time he must have screened the girls because they are usually in Uni clothes, always young, exceptionally pretty and virgin white. Very "khun noo" and the type you would suspect of being "hi so" if seen out shopping. Never be fooled by the exterior. The guy must be spending an absolute fortune on his lunch.

Couples at a “swingers” party hide their faces after a police raid at a Bangkok hotel in Phyathai district’s Pradipat area.

The Nation

King of the swingers arrested

After having reportedly organised more than a hundred "swingers" parties during the past three years, a British man was arrested yesterday along with his Thai wife at a Bangkok hotel. With them were five Thais and 16 foreigners allegedly participating in a wife-swapping party.

Christian A Richards, 54, has been charged with procurement and commercial sex advertisements. The parties are advertised through www.Bangkok.CraigsList.co.th where Richards' wife goes by the name of Duang. They charge each participant 3,000 Baht.

The "swingers" caught in the raid were a mix of Americans, French, Indians, and Chinese. The Tourist Police arrived at the hotel suite to find the party just warming up and discovered condoms, 30 Viagra tablets, and pornographic movies.

The police caught Richards in January at a party for about 50 people in a Huay Kwang hotel area but he claimed it was a birthday party and charges were pressed. *apparently, The Nation meant to write, "charges were not pressed*

Tourist police commander Archayon Kraithong said that the police investigation suggests such activities have been going on for three to four years, attracting 25 to 30 people from many countries to each party.

The police issued a warrant for Richards' arrest on February 1, 2009.

The foreign and Thai participants were released after paying fines, while Richards was still being questioned by police yesterday. If found guilty, he faces a jail sentence of up to 10 years or a fine of up to Bt20,000.

Briton charged with organising 'swingers' parties in Thailand

Man faces 10 years in jail over sex advertisements

A British man accused of organising "swingers" parties in Thailand faces 10 years in jail after police raided a Bangkok hotel where a party was in progress early today.

Christian Arthur Richards, 54, was arrested along with his Thai wife and 22 others – 16 foreigners and six Thais.

Police said that Richards had advertised the "swinging" parties on his website and then charged the couples 3,000 baht (£60) to participate.

The tourist police commander heading the inquiry, Col Archayon Kraithong, said that Richards had been charged with procuring sex and placing commercial sex advertising.

"He is under interrogation, but has been charged with procurement and commercial sex advertisements, which could land him 10 years in jail and a fine of up to 20,000 baht," Col Archayon said.

The 22 participants – from France, Australia, the US, China, India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Thailand – were all released after paying fines of 1,000 baht each.

Police raided the two-star Elizabeth Hotel in the Chatuchak area of the Thai capital minutes after midnight, bursting into room 1101.

In the £25-a-night room they found 13 foreign men with three foreign women and seven Thai females. Col Archayon said none of the women were prostitutes.

When the officers entered the 11th floor room they discovered several couples having sex, while the rest of those at the party were drinking and dancing.

Police also discovered condoms, lubricant gels, pornographic books and DVDs, and 30 Viagra pills.

Richards and his Thai wife are alleged to have organised more than 100 parties in Bangkok and the beach resort town of Pattaya over the past three years.

Prostitution is illegal in Thailand, but the kingdom has a reputation for sleaze and sex tourism.

Go-go bars with explicit sex shows form the backdrop for an industry that employs hundreds of thousands of Thai prostitutes.

Last year another British man, Byron Craig, 57, was arrested for running what was said to be a "swingers" sex resort in the northern Thai city of Ubon Thani.

But the Caroline resort seems to have been a front for a brothel were clients paid for sex with young Thai women and cross-dressing "ladyboys".

Thai police arrest orgy organizer, end swinging party

Bangkok - Thai police early Thursday raided an orgy, arresting 23 people including 16 foreigners for lewd behavior. Police raided the "swinging party" at the Elizabeth Hotel in Bangkok at 12:15 am Thursday, nabbing 14 foreign men, two foreign women and seven Thai women.

The foreign nationals netted were from Australia, China, France, Germany, India, Sri Lanka, the Netherlands, and the US, Tourist Police commander Colonel Archayon Kraithong said.

Police caught several of the participants having group sex in two hotel rooms and found used condoms, lubricant gel, porno books and CDs and 30 Viagra pills.

The party goers were freed after being charged 1,000 baht for lewd behaviour, but British national Christian Arthur Richards, 54, and his Thai wife face more serious charges and a possible ten years in prison for advertising and procurement for sex parties.

Richards and his wife are under investigation for organizing as many as 100 orgies in Thailand over the past four years.

"This was not the first time we tried to catch them," said Archayon. "We have been following their activities for a long time but it wasn't easy to nab them because they changed the venues often, sometimes holding parties in Pattaya, Bangkok, or Chonburi."

Prostitution, although widespread in Thailand, is illegal.
