rixalex
If you're considering a PVR - forget about the expensive box from Truevisions and get a Dreambox. I would do if it wasn't for your quote below. Note: since there is only 1 tuner in the box, you cannot watch another channel at the same time. This is the issue that i think makes Truevisions PVR hard to beat. Truevisions PVR you set something to record a few hours, a few days or a few weeks in advance, and can leave your home and not have to worry about someone changing the channel in the meantime. With a DM600, 7020, 7025, 800, 8000 (and the old 500 if you have it set up for recording) you can set anything up to one month in advance to record anything on TrueVisions via the EPG timer options, and also watch anything else on the same transponder at the same time on the set top box or via your PC. Or via faith anything up to a year in advance or more depending on the software you have installed on the DM box. I have one box here recording the TVNZ daily One News feed so I can watch it when I get time in the evening and it has been doing this since I set it up two years ago. kadnor
Good to hear from you Jon.After checking out the various images I ended up with Pli Jade as the best of the bunch. It seemed to give me the best support for the internal card slots, the timer and several other areas. Thanks for all the work you and other developers have put in. Always glad to see someone liked it. There is will be another E1 release shortly so stay tuned Hi, I am a new comer on THAI SAT FORUM. I would like to know whether there are suitable sections where I will be able to check the set up my DM 500 s(linux). On certain satellites 68.5*,I have not been succeful to serach for channels on the C band, where as Ku band is Ok. There must be somewhere on the Blue Panel to click "LOCK' "SYNC". Please receommend any member who is visibly familiar with this problem at this early stage. Thanks for the attention you will give to my request, BEST WISHES, yours respectfully, kadnor
Prasert
You can't select the checkboxes 'lock' nor 'sync'. Once the satellite dish catches a usable signal, the dreambox will display checkmarks in these boxes. Use the satfinder option in the menu, and watch it while making tiny dish adjustments. For 68.5 the SNR needs to be above 80%. Try frequency 4064 H as a start, it's a strong signal. Once you receive that one (this frequency carries Al Jazeera), make further adjustments with the satfinder on frequency 3863 V. Once the dish adjustments don't result in further improvements, make adjustments on the LNB.
TwentyBaht
I'll just add a little bit. Have locked on 68.5E C-band using a DM500S and the latest PLI image. I also had a problem at first. But, then went back and manually entered the polarity (inverted) for the Al Jazeera transponder and it immediately locked on. And, was able to get them all after that by manually entering the polarity. Don't really know why the PLI software "inversion switch" didn't work for me. Oh, and just for information. The "Zoom" feature, if you have a wireless router and a laptop at your dish location, is a super way to tune a dish.

Prasert
Can you elaborate a bit on that "no rocket science"? Is it just adding an ip etc. in the 8 mount options?thanks, harry After reading several other topics in this forum, I take this remark back. Yes, linux without a mouse is rocket science for the majority. All versions in Linux use the same basic paths for binaries and configuration files (Ubuntu being an exception in this). A dreambox is not that much different from an ordinary linux machine, it's just stripped down to perform those tasks needed. Telnet, ftp, the vi editor and a few very basic unix commands enable you to configure a Dreambox within 30 seconds. But....using the command-line interface is by now a relic from the previous century. Only very few people understand what's under the hood of their desktop. MJo
Hi guys, Was looking info and this is the closest without starting new thread. First of all i'm total n00b with Dreambox, Linux etc but ordered "pre-installed" DM800HD PVR and it is working ok but i'm not able to see any "pay" channels i have in my paid True Gold subscription. So i have inserted True card and can only see some Dharma channels. Everything else like channel 3, 5 and 7 + all the international channels are just blank screen. Have installed some cams like Ccam, Scam etc etc but nothing helps. Any advice or is there something i have missed in setup ? Oh, i think i'm running Project Gemini 2... Tnx
joncl
Oh, i think i'm running Project Gemini 2... Welcome to the world of clones, as Gemini is not on original boxes when they are delivered, but the DMM Engima2 is pre-installed on originals. Ask you provider / supplier to sort this out for you, that is they are there for.

joncl
Sorry my bad, did not realize talking about "wrong" sw is not allowed in this thread. Anyone out there who could offer advice ? Just a word of warning / free advice - nothing else - clone boxes do not run the latest software so simple things go haywire for no reason, Gemini bricks/kills boxes - so your choice of software OK lets start at the basics - 1. Identifying the card you are going to use. By doing this it will tell us what software to load on your box so you can watch TV. (Your dealer really should be doing this for you) Q: What is the colour of your card? Blue or Red/Grey ? A: Blue - download and install newcamd6.10 and activate the newcamd client and the cardserver under Menu Setup Softcam A. Red/Grey - download and install CCcam (any version) and activate the CCcam client only under Menu Setup Softcam (You may have to also configure this file /etc/CCcam.cfg with the correct CAM data as shown in the examples config file) Watch TV
MJo
Thanks, Will try. The card is red/pink. Around 3 months old. Has DStv and true visions logos. Looking at the back it seems to be made by Irdeto Access B.V. What i've seen in the forums the software seems to be matter of taste as usual with linux. But if it solves issues could i just flash the box with something else. The box is DM800HD PVR, idea is just to get PVR function and eventually be able to watch movies from pc hard drive and maybe even share the card to bedroom. Now i'm running Ccam but maybe it needs some mods to the config files. Well live and learn, thanks for the help
joncl
The DM800 Wikipedia I wrote for the Pli software will help with all the basic things like pvr/ streaming etc (although there should be a HDD/PVR kit in the box that came with the DM800 and instructions in the manual about how to add the HDD) but will not help the CCcam issues as that is already covered in the sample config files in the Pli software as it should be with Gemini one would think. MJo
Very helpful pages, thanks for the link. I'll need to check if the box is genuine or clone, it has software installed that claims you can check but i didn't do it yet. Purchased it from Eldsat (mailorder delivered from Phuket) and assumed they, as expat run outfit, would sell genuine ones but who knows. They haven't replied to my questions so they seem to be lacking on support quite badly. It was promised to me as plug n play i.e. preset to work with True card... joncl
OK so if you purchased from them, then it is 100% a clone box. Did you every do a google on that company before you purchased? Buyer be very aware . I am sure others will chime in with their comments too.

Not done on the DM box but rather in VLC or other such apps (but please feel free to add it in there as the wiki is open for everyone to edit) 2. all DM boxes are MP2 unless it is transcoded to something else in say VLC

WimVerkuijlen
I wanted to see Truevision programs. Someone came and installed a dish and a receiver (Hitech TM 3q), I could see these programs. I wanted to see BVN since I am from the netherlands, sdomeone came and installed a disch and a receiver (PSI) and I could see this program and more. I wanted to see all these programs via a remote, nobody could do this. A lot of changing cables, putting in amplifiers and splitters, result: broken stuff because of shorts, etc. So, I look into it myself: I ended up with the following configuration: Sat A for Thaicom 5/2 Ku, Sat B for Thaicom 5/2 C, committed 2/1 DiseqC 2.0, Dreambox 500S with latest software version. Dreambox programmed for 2 satelites, AA Thaicom 5/2 E Ku, AB Thaicom 5/2 E C. Result: When doing the automaitic transponderscan the system does not lock. Message to check cables, etc. I tried everything but it does not work! When I disconnect the cable from the dreambox and connect it ot the TM3Q I get the programs and signal, when I connect to the PSI box I get the programs and signal. Oh, one little detail. Although both satellites should look at the Thaicom sat, I am quite convinced the are looking in different directions?? I live in Hua Hin Anyone some ideas?? I would appreciate. chris1
I have a Dreambox 7020Si satellite receiver, running Linux. It is wonderful. Connects to my home LAN so files can be transfered to and from the box and patches can be downloaded directly off the internet using the remote. It records programmes on an internal hard disk. I have a 160Gb installed at present. The Movie Player allows me to access and stream video from my PC for viewing on the TV. A whole new home entertainment experience. Anyone else using this technology? Drop me a PM or post here. sounds interesting! have a dreambox as well connected to te internet for ubc decoding. my supplier left me so I only use it as a satellite receiver now you know any khon kaen specialist? harry hi can you help I am looking for someone to install a drea box system near pattaya can you recomend anyone thanks chris

We also live in Hua Hin and would like to restore sattelite service (lost when DSTV Africa discontinued their Asia feed). I'm a complete novice when it comes to this stuff. The jargon puts me off. We have a large Infosat dish and 2 networked DM500 boxes. Were you able to find someone local to help with your setup? We tried Big Kiang but it sounded like they wanted to bypass our existing harware and install a new system. Any suggestions much appreciated. LivinLOS
Any linux boxee fans using dreamboxes here ?? Looking to try to sort out a feed into boxee with a feedback of the control commands.. Thereby exposing the dreambox to work in headless type way onto the home net. The video stream is not hard, its the finesse, the command and control and EPG data that would really tip this over the edge. Basically do what DVBSBridge does for MCE but with linux and dreambox / boxee ?? Dreamboxee anyone ??
