george Posted March 8, 2009 Share Posted March 8, 2009 Hong Kong and Thailand drafting treaty that could send Thaksin home HONG KONG: -- Hong Kong is close to agreeing on an extradition treaty with Thailand that could be used to send ousted prime minster Thaksin Shinawatra back home, a news report said Sunday. Talks are at an advanced stage over the wide-ranging treaty which could affect regular visitor Thaksin, facing a two-year jail sentence for corruption in Thailand, according to the Sunday Morning Post. T is the runner and the powers that be are the coyote, have to keep the series going so old Wiley cannot be successful in his quest. Perhaps another countries door will be closed to the fleeing bird. And yet they appear to have done absolutely nothing in terms of instituting proceedings. All they seem to have done is send senior civil servants on extravagant junkets to England to 'investigate' the possibility of extradition. There comes a point when one's credulity is stretched beyond breaking point. There must be a point to this scaremongering. Perhaps it's to 'rattle' the itinerant Thaksin. Journalist Posted March 8, 2009 Share Posted March 8, 2009 If Abhisit had checked the list of treaty countries two weeks ago, before flapping his lips about arrest and extradition of his nemesis, a great opportunity for showboating would have been missed. A person with an education as expensive as his should have realised that Hong Kong Basic Law is different to PRC, though perhaps he's playing dumb for the grandstand effect. Briggsy, I reckon the Thai Media portraying Thaksin as "the fugive" is keeping this story rolling.Ex right wing British journalists advisers could possibly be behind this. Besides, now the press have nothing left of substance they can report or that they dare print!...........and I've got this nasty feeling (if previous regime change is anything to go by)if Thaksin were to return a deal to brush things under the carpet might be struck! The Nation quotes Aphisit as claiming Thailand and HK have pledged to discuss an extradition treaty and are "one step closer to extraditing Thaksin". Absolute guff. hammered Posted March 9, 2009 Share Posted March 9, 2009 Part game to keep Thaksin paranoid and off balance and part serious as both places are convenient bolt holes for crims from the other place. In the meantime China certainly wont be wanting anyone using any of its territory for a political purpose aimed at upsetting a regional ally, and hegemony over mainland SE Asia is a strategic goal of China which is coming ever nearer.
