Where Is A Good Ao-nang Burger?

Wow, lots of bitter folks in Ao Nang! Can't a guy put in a request for a decent burger without being pilloried as a culturally insensitive barbarian? :)

Why do you say "bitter folks"? The bottom line is there is not a good burger in Ao Nang and you're best off eating some pad gpao.

Try the A1, not far up the road from the luna bar (locally known as loony bar), good burgers & pizzas there right on the sea front plus good brekkies all at a reasonable price!

A1 on the seafront?

If I don't know where the Luna Bar is could you describe again where it might be? If standing in front of the horrid BK looking at the water it's to my left or right, how far? Near a hotel at all?

Just turn right huggy and follow your nose :)

Bout 1k away, on the next beach.

Do a great sunday roast as well, best I have had in Thailand would not be over the top. When I was there they were serving roast lamb which was a nice change, and the guy from Doncaster sure knows how to make yorkshire puds

Ahhhhhhhhh........

A1 is on the water at Nappharat, not Ao Nang, yes?

Lamb and Yorkshire puds? That beats a burger every day of the week !!!!

I'll look for it.

I went to Ao-Nang the other night, and saw a 24 hour Bugger King. So I popped in for a burger, about 10pm, and got a take away. Much to my disappointment, when I tasted it I found it had been reheated in a microwave! So much for BK making fresh burgers at the 24 hour gaff!

Maybe you regulars in the area already knew this, but heads up for anyone else - make sure you check your food before leaving!

Any ideas where else in the area does a good burger?

Please,if you want to eat garbage farang food, return to your own country,it's very difficult as it is to find good thai food in ao-nang due to all the over priced farang restauants. why do so many farangs come to thailand and then want to change things?

What a narrow minded freak you are mate? Can people please decide for themselves what they will eat???

It's not because someone visits LOS that they have to eat the local food now do they?

Weirdo :)

Many thanks to the staunch defenders of freedom of speech. And yah boo sucks to the silly folks who don't get it.

I've been here for many years and unlike many ex-pats, I enjoy eating curry every day, but sometimes I hanker for a bit of western grub from time to time. I make my own sausages, pies, burgers, pizzas, pasta dishes, bread etc and still I occasionally fancy someone else's cooking! Then if I go on holiday to Krabi etc I may well pop in to a western joint, but it doesn't mean I eat there exclusively!

Therewill always be some who think none of us should be here and we should all eat the same food in the same way, but I'm obviously a freak who sees the world as my oyster... and I eat those too.

Right now I'm in England eating pies and scones and drinking cider and ale, but maybe I'll go to a Thai restaurant for dinner and then someone can tell me I'm trying to spread Thai cooking all over the UK...

Very entertaining posts on here. If I didn't know better, I would have thought I was reading the Samui forum. :D

Went to Ao Nang last week.My verdict? Loved the scenery, the feel. Hated the overpricing & blatant rip offs.

I thought there was some desperate restaurant & bar owners on Samui you guys beat that hands down.I thought we had Taxi mafia, you have a very organised Co op :D , some of the prices :)

So in short you are not the only ones facing these probs, overpricing, food quality etc.......

Anyway , loved the place & will be back again.

Oh back on topic, I tried the burger at Irish Rover,OK, not bad.

"Not bad" is lower than "good" on the scale though, no?

bad-not bad-o.k.-good-very good-excellent

So we still haven't located the best burger in Ao Nang yet, and everybody, a good burger does not come out of a microwave, but in my opinion, comes off a grill.

wanting a burger is hardly trying to change thailand, many thais welcome the change to a bit of the life the farangs have had back in their home country

not may farangs come here and live in thai houses or work 14 hrs a day for 180bht but i see you have a pc and internet is that not the same as wanting a burger

dont just pick out what you dont want when you slag of others for changing things i bet you dont give up all your western comforts to live here

Prime example of off topic; possible for us to all agree (?) the topic is "Where is a good Ao Nang burger (outside of RCA, where they seem a tad recycled)".

Carry on, A1 seems to be nominated as the best so far.

Its not difficult to find good, cheap, local thai food in ao nang you muppett.

....and if you don't like the Farang restaurants in ao nang , no one is forcing you to stay.

I'm sure the Thai Tourist Authority would love your comments, seeing as tourism is one the .if not the biggest source of revenue to this country.

I have lived here for many years. incidentally i only eat thai food, but like nearly all Thais, see the importance of offering a choice of western food.

I see foreigners come here to live, and after a short time, some develop this attitude of intolerence. Possibly that dvd of the Beach is on permanent replay?!

Why do you say "bitter folks"? The bottom line is there is not a good burger in Ao Nang and you're best off eating some pad gpao.

That's my point Huggy, How do you know what I am better off eating. It's great to make a suggestion but when posters are insistent they know what is best for the OP it becomes less of a forum and more of a soapbox. :D

The OP is just looking for a decent burger but he is subjected to a rant about commercialism and cultural insensitivity.

The OP didn't ask for a Burger King or a McDonalds or an Italian Pizza joint to be built in AoNang - why is he being held accountable for the alleged capitalist sins they represent? I'd wager all those businesses are Thai owned and operated, yet there is no uproar over the abuse of Thai culture by those Thais themselves.

Yes, yes, I know, if it was not for tourists there would be no reason for any of those farang chains, but at the same time if it was not for tourists AoNang would still be a fishing village.

Personally I think it's a dam_n shame the way fast food chains (and convenience stores) have blossomed all over the world like a rampant fungus, but that's not what I'm defending.

I live on an island where I eat rice and salted fish every day. On the rare occasion when I do get to Krabi or AoNang I like to go to get some greasy farang crap food and it's nobody's business to tell me that I shouldn't. Especially when didn't ask for your opinion of the political ramifications of my choices!

All in good fun - flame away! :D

Good post, well put. I said before that i only eat thai food. Well, sorry, not quite true. I do get the very occasional yearning for a burger....as do many Thais i know, and they, let alone myself, reserve the right to make their own choices in THEIR country
