Thanks H90,

Yes they took 2 tanks..... but siezed, no! dragged? no! used any force other than a handshake? no!

They were laughing! And so were my wife and I, thinking what the international stage will make of this.

This isn't even worth time of day anymore. Just another flimsy, failed pathetic chapter in a long novel of corrupted twists and turns that I've lost the page completely!

But you saw the when they broke into the black car and killed (or almost killed) the driver? There no one was laughing.....Specially not the guy on the floor who got the boots in his face.

H90,

Yes, I agree.

I honestly just wish they would do something..... the guy shouldn't have been allowed to climb on the tank! Push him off! Surely there must be a rule for climbing on military property? Push him off then get inside. When they start throwing shit at you, who cares? You're inside a 50 tonne vessel of steel.

Why weren't the police helping the guy in the car? What, I don't get it. If a police or soldier went and started bashing a red, it'd be all over the news. But a red bashes a driver, who gives a *&^$? Not fair play.

They still have plenty of stupid soapies and game quiz shows on TV :o , must be real important. I guess they are the main source of education.

I seriously doubt reds have any real support. They have several thousand people roaming the streets that no one dares to confront, so far, and millions of Thais watching TV in disgust and apprehension.

Jatuporn calls to attack Abhisit and Suthep is an act of treason and an invitation for a crackdown that is currently underway, or so it appears.

Military and police units will be asked to take sides, in a few hours it will be clear if there's any mutiny in the armed forces, but my guess is that they'll all toe the line and reds will have no fallback whatsoever.

I mean, seriously, do you think they are capable of staging a revolution? It takes a lot more to seize the power and install a new government than blocking roads or breaking into hotels and ministries.

It's their final call, if they don't succede now, their leaders are going to be arrested and the movement shut down.

i dont think they are staging a revolution, just trying to apply enough pressure to make the goverment step down.

i expect things to play out like at the airport with the yellows, that is , goverment forced to resign.

the reluctant army and police wont be enough to control this angry mob,

only extreme force will pacify them and I dont think the army or police have it in them to do so.

When a govern democratically elected is destabilized from a wild mob is the right time to use extreme force. In Thailand like in every western country.

Please, no tanks on the streets... this looks like the beginning of the end

I've seen already. At 3 pm I saw about dozen tanks strolling in the Dusit area.

Anyone can confirm?

My son saw about 10 tanks go down Pradipat. Someone else just arrived here at work coming from Siam Paragon area and there tanks have taken up position in the intersection

I have just seen the news for the first time today on television. That looked a bad situation in BKK where the prime ministers car was being attacked. Seemed to be plenty of venom there.

And they say the tanks have been deployed? This does not sound too good.

Happy Sonkran?

Have a friend due in in middle of the week to the airport from the UK and he lives in BKK. I was going to go and see him but now it may seem prudent to wait.

Welcome to the world of multi party democracy. Same as Proportional Representation - after elections - stalemate - followed by horse trading, followed by a coalition. Some people then change sides. No need to call an election but there is now a majority for the other lot.

It is called democracy. Ask the Italians.

A new election here will solve nothing. Thaksin gave the Reds a voice and now they won't shut up. If you want them to go back and plant rice then the existing coalition must try and incorporate their representatives into the governing coalition. Call it a National Govt if you like. But asking Thais to try and talk together to arrive at a compromise is lke asking the fox not to eat the chicken. Just watch any Thai soap.

I just love my job - Tour OPerator.

Well, that's about as good a summary of the situation as I've ever seen. I like your reference to the Thai soap operas. They're a great window on real Thai culture (even if it is a very narrow view).

Democracy and free speech, Abhisit style.

Rainman, if you ae simply trying to flame, ok, otherwise you are such an ass

When mob rule prevails, and a state of ememgency has been declared, certain basic rights are shelved.

Some of the things you spout, strangely enough, I do agree with, but when you try and be 'cute' you loose it.

Your redshirts are now not protesters, they have become rioters and insurectionists. There is a point where even you should know when to stop blowing their horn.. If your common sense is allowed to come through, that is.

Backing your team is one thing. Showing your belief is one thing. But condoning mob rule and violence is not in anyones best interests. Step back and take a look at what is happening.

Well said Gonzo. Rainmen is full of crap. I have been following him the last couple of days and he keeps going on and on about the same old rubbish.

This is REAL Rainman - NOT some theory lesson - get real yourself !!

I get a feeling that many posters here are from the US, which has a completely different kind of democratic system with a (semi-)directly elected head of government.

/ Priceless

Some Americans have graduate degrees in political science and now a helluva lot more about parliamentary governments than you. Abhisit could have dissolved parliament, and probably would have seen gains in the house. I'm not so sure after this fiasco.

The more I watch the TV with not one picture the more I am convinced.

PM declares state of Emergency then jumps in his car for a drive????

Car of course is attacked again no pictures.

Now they are saying there are spent shell casings all over the ground........Again no pictures.

In this day & age not a single picture.???

Sad to say it is pretty obvious what is happening now.

Care to enlighten us thicko's please?

No problem but IMHO in this day & age of cameras everywhere & total connectivity........

What could be the possible reason for not one picture being shown?

Come on now I know you can do it :o

My guess is they dont want any one there to see how bad it is ,here in Sydney front page of the herald had photo of red shirts smashing windows and the main head line read , PM SAYS THAI NO GO ZONE.They mean our PM, his plane was a few hours out of BKK and did a U turn, and since then have seen heaps of stuff of the telly ,saw helicopters evacuating people from the cliff top hotel roof .and saw heaps of dudes beating the shit out of PMs black merc, man it looked really wild and not one cop ,if you want to see some footage head to sbs news Oz ,check there web site.

Try

www.manager.co.th/home/news1/550k.html

or

bbts01.servebbs.net/nation/?bitrate=512#

for up to date news.

I wonder what happened to the water cannon? A reasonably efficient and non lethal way of clearing a street of demonstrators. Plus it is Songkran...

Do you still not understand????

Now that red shirts have climbed on tank, soldiers have the full right to shoot(shoot to kill).

This is all pre organised to really use the force. and no one(other nations)can condemn the actions taken by the government

Not helping a guy being almost killed is another reason for start shooting, as red shirts are attacking civilians and again this is Thailand, so life of some guy is not worth much to achieve the results

<The current government is illegitimate.

The PAD LOST the last election.

Do they think they can ride rough shod over democracy and expect the voices of the people to be silent?>

Total BS

No Pad members ran in the last Election

Someone should teach the Red shirts how parliment works

The party with the most Members in agreement are the government (affiliated parties count)

If this was not true the Government would be useless and never be able to pass any lawas as the opposition would hold the numbers and defeat every action they took

In Britian Australia etc a Government can change if when a Bi election is held the people vote for the opposition if they now have the numbers they become the Parliment

Democracy is where the Majority rules

and 100,000 thousand red shirts is not the majority of Thai people

In any language the Red shirts are the dictators they say they want to stop

Just my 5 cents worth

On D-Station there are about 10 monks on stage giving a prayer.

It is disgusting, firstly the monks should not get involved in politics and secondly this is an media show of the redshirts using the monks.

It is getting more and more crazy!!!

Please, no tanks on the streets... this looks like the beginning of the end

There are tanks coming out from the military headquarter. Apisit's security guard has killed 3 red innocent red shirts with no arms. I was out there myself. But government hiding the truth.. they try to cut down the only people truth communication TV channel. This government is undemocracy.

Seeing the TV I assume those guards were outnumbered and did not have many option to defend themselves againt the yaba mob!

THose people certainly were on Yaba, easy to be seen.

Tanks on the streets -

Just got back from a quick drive. One tank is out at the Army base in Phaholyothin Road. Saw a squad of Army solders with weapons at the base of Ari BTS.

And something is happening at Paragon. Two armoured personnel carriers, soldiers with weapons running around, lots of red shirts scrambling out of pickups and hundred of onlookers on the flyovers and at Siam BTS. I was driving and ran right into the middle of it as it was starting, and thankfully managed to get past it before it got blocked.

Red shirts are back at Victory Monument, waving red flags all around at the entrances.

Things aren't looking good....

Yes, I understand your perspective. However, they're now taking them for rides on the top of the tanks.... everyone is having sanook! I don't see how this comes into it.

I tend to agree. This really needs sorting out a different way. Quite what though...

The reds do have a lot of sympathisers upcountry. Just like the yellows did too. These sympathisers are not the people who are on thestreets but they no doubt number in the millions and their issues need to be adressed even if the red shirts fall apart.

Where do I find D-TV, biased or not?

I believe you need a subscription via cable. Their website (dstation.tv) is not yet ready. www.thaipeoplevoice.org/TVs2.html may work some of the time
