Many people "playing" around with some kind of Thai fish and marinate it, tried so many versions but it's not real when once eaten a real rollmops. The problem is that the "Hering" contains much more fat that the one you can find here as a substitute; so much less taste. From time to time I buy imported ones but very expensive, nice for a hangover . Many moons ago an airline staff got me a big pack of Matjes Hering from Holland, marinated with some sour cream, apples and onions, served with boiled potatoes..........it was like Xmas . Gerd help me out I can't believe I'm reading this... herring is a COLD WATER fish and Thai waters are TROPICAL. Only place you're likely to find them is in a tin!
