Getting A Mri Or Ct Scan In Pattaya?

I had two CT scans done last year - first one was at Bangkok Pattaya Hospital - 17,000 baht - professional service. After that I was refered to Chonburi cancer hospital - same scan 9,000 baht - Doctors were excellent and although the hospital is mainly for Thai's they had no problems treating and communicating with me, a native English speaker.

I had a CT scan done for MIL at Pattaya International Hospital on soi 4. They checked both her vascular system and alimentary canal. The doctor spent about an hour going through the results with me in English on a big double monitor. Cost around 11,000 bt.

Thanks all. I appreciate the info.

I've had a very strange and painful headache in the back of my head (never had this pain there before) for almost a week now. Can't kill the pain to matter what I take for it. It's the most unusual pain and I fear there is something wrong more than just a recurring headache. :)

An MRI scan of the knees in Bangkok Rayong hospital was around two-thirds the cost of the same scan in Bangkok Pattaya hospital. It's well worth looking around, try Queen Sirikit and also the Jap hospital in Sri Racha.

Their is only one MRI Machine in Pattaya, and that's at BPH. Queen Sirikit in Sattahip does not have MRI, or CT Scan. As stated before, the most reasonable price is Phyathai hospital in Sriracha.

Very good doctors, and staff. Ive been there. Contact Gavin Waddell, who is the international MGR at that hospital.

I went to Pattaya International on Soi 4 tonight to get a CT.

The tried like hel_l to make me come back in the morning and even offered me a 1000b discounted price if I did. It wasn't worth it to me to save 1000b to go home and come back so after everyone there pushed and pushed me to come tomorrow, including the doctor who was making excuse after excuse as to why tonight was not a good idea, I pushed back harder and got the scan. The only real excuse was that the guy who was to make the scan came out when I first got there and was complaining about having to do it. lol He complained to the desk staff right in front of me, then to the doctor when I was sitting there, probably not thinking I could understand what he was saying. Typical. But in the end, I got the scan and that's all that matters.

It cost 7800b at night, but 6800b if you come in the morning they said. Plus they added in a few hundred baht to see the doctor. It may be cheaper somewhere else but I feel that was reasonable and to just get it done and be done with it was worth maybe paying a little more.

Result will be in tomorrow at 7pm, as they had nobody on staff at night who could actually read the scans in detail.

You can go to Phyathai Hospital in Sriracha, about 29 minutes North of Pattaya.

Barry

What did a CT cost you there?

Sorry I was not able to get back to you. The cost is 7,000 Baht, but since you were able to get it in pattaya for 7800 Baht, that was OK. When I lived in Pattaya, Pattaya international on Soi 4 did not have a machine.

Good luck.

FISH ALLERGY: An intresting point for some people, and this could affect all the hospitals, is that the Phyathai said that people with FISH ALLERGY cannot have CT scans. Apparently it is something to do with the Iodine used come from Fish sources. post-34728-1247376320.gif

I gather there are alternative source, but had no reason to check them out at present.

The first thing that the guy (the tech who didn't want to work) asked me who came out to complain was, "do you have fish allergy?"

The conversation then went something like this:

Me: No

Him: How do you know?

Me: I know

Him: Maybe you have some fever for eat fish?

Me: I don't eat fish

Him: Because you have allergy?

Me: No, because I don't like the taste of it

Him: Because of allergy. I can not make scan.

Me: I never eat fish, I don't like the taste

Him: Yes

Me: Yes, what?

Him: You no eat fish

Me: Yes

Him: Mumbled and walked off.

In other news, I went back today to get the results. They tried to charge me again for seeing the doctor for reading the results, after they charged me last night for a doctor that didn't know how to read the results.

There is no problem in my brain according to the CT, but they did find a cyst in my sinus cavity. I'm going back tomorrow to see yet another doctor (and another doctor fee) regarding ear, nose and throat. Only he can decode this cyst it seems.

I was then told that my head problem was because of a red mark on my skin (no hair) on the back of my head and that it was a problem with my skin. It is my birth mark. I told them this and got "yes" as a reply and then handed a ticket to see another doctor tomorrow.

I often wonder how some of these people have made it this far along without accidentally killing themselves. Yes.

Today was day three, rather round three, and the final round, of dealing with incompetent doctors at Pattaya International Hospital.

I have seen a general doctor, then a "specialist" who had to read the CT scan, a neurologist, and today a nose ear and throat specialist who just referred me back to the neurologist because my problem was not within his field, even though the neurologist sent me to him because it was in his field.

I was first told this cyst thing I have needs to be examined by the ear, throat and nose specialist and checked to see if it was cancerous. However today the ear, throat and nose specialist said, without looking at either my CT scan results or looking at the cyst, that there was no problem and that I probably had a headache. He said unless I start bleeding out of my nose, then I shouldn't worry. Comforting. We went round and round for a while but he only smiled repeatedly and told me that 1 or 2 out of 100 of his patients have this same issue and it's nothing serious. Ahhhh, only 1 or 2 out of 100. I feel much better now.

He then made another appointment for me on Thursday to see the same neurologist I saw before. I declined, explained to him that I will no longer be coming to that hospital because everyone there is incompetent and is better suited to work on buffalo. He either didn't catch the sarcasm or refused to show emotion. It didn't matter either way as I do not plan to see him ever again.

I grabbed my scans, the file they had on me, and headed to the cashier. The nurse chased me and said they needed the file. I asked her for what, because nobody is reading it. I refused to hand it over, paid the bin and left.

Going to start over again with a new place, perhaps the couple recommended here.

In the meantime, I'm going to hope I don't start bleeding from the nose. :)

Sorry but you are wrong...Pattaya International have CT and MRI Scan machines and Pattaya Memorial have one as well.. at Memorial they appear to be very proficient at analysing the results and charge 3000 baht for a Liver / Gall bladder MRI scan (done today) :)

I was just at Pattaya International and they said they didn't have a MRI machine, only CT.

With that said, they could have just been too lazy to fire it up. But I asked and they said they didn't have one. However, my visits with them over the past 3 days were total custer f_cks and I will NEVER go there again. Not even if I was dying and it was the closest hospital. Total incompetence. One doctor says I have to test and maybe remove what they found, as it could be cancerous, while the next doctor said "no problem" and said if my nose wasn't also bleeding that it was nothing to worry about. Of course, this is all after the first doc found "artifacts" in my CT scan which turned out to be nothing other than a machine issue, according to doctor #2, yet doctor #1 was concerned about it. :D

It was a total Three Stoogies show. Wouldn't recommend it. :)

Washed my hands of them, heading to a new place tomorrow I think.

Please keep us posted. I've had a few disappointments at PIH myself.

I have used them on a number of occasions and never had a problem including one operation and blood tests. Had the results within 30 minutes.I think you will always get complaints about all the hospitals here but they are a lot cheaper than back home

This afternoon I went to Phyathai Hospital in Sriracha. What a totally different experience that was compared to Pattaya's hospitals.

First, let me say that I was the only one there not wearing a mask for H1N1. Then let me say that they were 100x better than any hospital I've been to in Pattaya. They actually listened to what I was saying, REALLY checked me over, asked a lot of questions and were not in a hurry to get me out the door. I felt like I was in a real hospital for a change and not a clip joint.

My day started with the Ear, Nose and Throat doctor. She was a very sexy woman and after spending about 15 minutes with her, she had to send me to the neurologist. He reviewed my scans in great detail and I spent the most time with him. Due to the location of the pain, he suggested I first see the dentist to check if there is a tooth problem in the back of my mouth that could be causing the problem, so off to the dentist I went.

No problem there, another cutie. Back to the neurologist and then off to get a MRI.

When it was all said and done, I was there from about 12pm - 7pm. It was a LONG day but I made the rounds in a pretty full hospital, plus the MRI alone took 50 minutes, but only after waiting 45 minutes for the guy before me to finish. The machine sucked. I am too big and it must be fitted for smaller people. Regardless, they got the job done.

7 total hours, a visit to the Ear, Nose and Throat doctor, a visit with the dentist, two visits with the neurologist and a MRI cost a total of 14,000b. 12,500 of it was the MRI. No complaints about the price. The service was excellent. :)

I was called at 11pm last night and told the results of the MRI did not show my problem to be cancer (thank god) but I do need to see the neurologist again today to review the results and take it from there.

Thanks Barry! You were spot on about them.

Well worth paying a bit extra and getting difficult diagnoses done in one of the big medical centers in BKK. Still need to pick a competent Dr. But chances are just better in BKK where you find all you need. That said, there are some excellent Dr.s in BPH. Sheryl can give great advise if you are not familiar with the situation. Once you find a top Dr. in his field, he will usually refer you to capable colleagues if needed. Good luck. MS >
