Harmonica
In the time that this thread has been running, have the police changed their report to reflect that the dead man committed suicide? Hmm, where the police involved in the murder/suicide? No! No! Hint: Police are not a factor!
siamesekitty
The man was supposed to cut his hand off and put it in the briefcase? Or was it supposed to be, erm, another body organ?

YES! ..... he was supposed to cut off his arm (not just the hand) excellent! Ewww! Loco! Are we supposed to find out why as well? That was the whole idea from the start -- to uncover the circumstances and the whys and wherefores etc. We're not far from there.
Harmonica
Focal point now should be: "The man was supposed to deliver his left arm in the briefcase to the people living in the house. We know he handed the briefcase to the woman, who was a part of the group in the house. Instead of delivering his arm, he gave money, lots of it -- to possibly and probably pacify the recipients of the money and to have them fully accept it. They obviously did not accept it! So he was followed, probably cornered, bundled into a van or something and taken to the junkyard and killed" ------- Why? What's with the donation of an arm? What could possibly be the circumstances that would engender such bizarre actions?

Harmonica
Did the man lose a bet to the people in the house? No! actually irrelevant. There was no bet. As we have established thus far, he failed to honor his part of the bargain -- i.e. to deliver his arm in a briefcase.
Harmonica
Remember, it was his left arm that was supposed to be in the briefcase.

Harmonica
If the occupants in the house also had their left arms missing and the man was supposed to deliver his left arm to them wouldn't it stand to reason that they were some sort of group, albeit a bizarre one?
