I am looking for a vet in Bangkok who will agree to euthanized a 10 years old dog suffering from anemia parasites and kidney failure. She is vomiting and not eating for a few days now! Sheis in the last stage of kidney failure and needs to go peacefully. I am a volunteer from the Toronto humane society. i spend 5 months a year in Thailand caring for the street dogs of Bangkok feeding them and vetting them as well. I feed the dogs in Lumpini park each day!

An update on Rama 3 Animal hospital: they also do house calls. The doctor's visit will cost you 200B but you have to go to clinic first and pick him up.

The can do all kinds of test but suggested that for ultrasound I should go to a bigger hospital for and ultrasound machine with higher definition.

Telephone number: 02-681-0770-1, e-mail:[email protected]. Open every day from 9 a.m. till 9 p.m.

I'd like to add a recommendation for Rama 3 Animal Hospital. It's acually on Naradhiwas in the last shop house on the corner of Rama 3 by the big Tesco/Lotus.

... The vet I've seen is absolutely brilliant, speaks excellent English and genuinely loves animals

... Having had the flu and being quite poorly my kitten got a clean bill of health today so could start his vaccinations (only flu for now, rabies next month) and worming: total cost plus consultation was 290฿. Even when he was ill I never paid more than 700฿ - and that was the first time I went when I was dispatched home with a bag full of antibiotics, eye cream, immunity boosting supplements, syringes, etc, etc.

Would like to add a recommendation for people around Sukhumvit 24. There is a small vet clinic about 500m on the left after you turn in from Sukhumvit. Its at the bottom floor of a small apartment building. A young male Thai vet works there called Dr Pie. He is one of the best emergency care vets I have ever used. I have taken several stray cats to him after accidents/fights/sickness and he has done an excellent and fair job rehabilitating them in all cases. His english is good. He only works a few days a week there so best to call to check he is in if you are planning to go. Tel 02 259 0418. Caution, the other vets and assistants there are poor to fair only, IMHO. Certainly for any routine animal care if you are in that area, he is more than up to the task.

Vets' services and charges vary widely - be warned!

I have 4 cats and 3 dogs and have take them for many years to a vet in South Pattaya on Sukhumvit road just past Tesco Lotus.

Initially they were very good, but then I realised prices were going up wildly.

I had a bitch spayed for THB1,200 about 2 years ago and then about a year later I wanted the same done for another smaller dog. Suddenly the price was THB 4,500! When I questioned this they said that the previous price was a special.

This was a warning and I started watching all prices.

One of my beagles contracted mange as a puppy and the weekly shampoo and injection cost THB4,600. Crazy - as they said it could take 3-6 months to cures. That adds up to THB 18,400/month - thus easily THB 100,000 for the cure.

After the second injection, a new vet opened up near my house in Nongprue - just off Siam Country Club road (where the new vet is). I went to them and asked for a price. THB 600 for the same injection and special shampoo. !!!!!!!!!!!

Best is, I have been back for other issues with the pets and the prices are all much lower and the people much friendlier.

Three times, I went back with the dog having a broken toe nail or something small. The vet cut the nail and on all 3 occasions as there was no medication or follow up required the charge was a massive THB 00000.00. Yes - that's right - IT WAS FREE!

For anyone looking for a good vet this is their name. They have two offices in Siam Country Club road - the main one close to Sukhumvit and the other about 4km towards Mapbrachan. Their website is - http://www.siamcountrypet.com/siamcountryenglish.html

I highly recommend them.

Any recommendations/comments about the vet in Bangrak, koh samui, near the market? Have female dog needs medical procedure. I know about other vets but Bangrak would be very convenient as procedure requires boarding for 5 days and I intend to visit daily.

Another thumbs down for Nern Plub Wan (NPW) Animal Hospital in Pattaya. We've been taking our dog there for the past 8 years and never had a problem with the place - always been fairly happy with the care he's received and pricing seemed reasonable.

Recently our dog had a seizure at around 1am. He was completely unresponsive. His body was limp except for his jaw which was clenched, tongue hanging out and his breathing was rapid and laboured. Took him to NPW and were led to a cubicle where we laid him on a table and were told by the young assistants that the vet was busy with an emergency case in the next cubicle. Every 10 mins or so one of the assistants would come in and listen to his heart and breathing with their stethoscope but no examination by the vet, even though I saw him walk past a couple of times. After 40 mins of waiting I decided that he had as much chance of dying on that table as he did of receiving any treatment so picked him up and drove to Thonglor Pet Hospital on Sukhumvit Road close to the junction with South Pattaya Road which is also 24-hour. As soon as we arrived one of the young assistants carried him onto a table in their Emergency Room and started giving him oxygen. After a couple of minutes the vet came down and gave him a thorough examination, put him on a drip and took blood for testing. He stayed there for a couple of nights and they did a great job of treating him.

All in all I could not be happier with the treatment at Thonglor Pet Hospital - it's very clean, the vets and assistants seem to know what they are doing, and I get the impression that they genuinely care about the animals they are treating. The downside is it's hellish expensive.

As for NPW Animal Hospital - I could not be less happy with their performance that night. In 40 minutes of waiting the best we got was an assistant with a stethoscope that looked like they hadn't a clue what they were doing and that their sole purpose was to give us the impression that something was being done so that we wouldn't leave and take our business elsewhere. The experience disgusted me.

A terrific new find for those in the Bangkok or even Pattaya area.

Eastern Bangkok Veterinary Surgical Center AKA Parichart Suminthawong Animal Hospital

It is a very well equipped facility staffed by vets on the faculty of Kasetsart and Mahodol Vet Hospitals/Faculties

No website but they are on Facebook

My local vet referred me there as my dog had an oral tumor. It was much more convenient/fast than going to Kasetsart, vastly less expensive than Thonglor and did an excellent job.

They are in the Minburi/Lat Krabang area (airport vicinity) on Soi Kom Klao 11. Just a short distance into the Soi and before you enter the Mu Ban.

I was able to arrange through my local Vet to get the pre-op blood work done locally and bring it with me so that we were able to arrange for immediate surgery with just one trip, would suggest anyone else coming from afar do likewise. Most local vets will know who they are as it is well known among Vets in Thailand.

This is the staff:

If you live in Chiang Mai, may I recommend this animal hospital close to Chiang Mai Land.

Both my dogs became seriously ill and the local vets were less than useless. Now thriving thanks to my daughter discovering these American trained vets based in Chiang Mai. All their medicines and treatments are imported, none of the useless Thai crap. Their staff are trained to handle and cope with the most nervous and difficult of dogs.

http://banmhakamaew.com/about_en.php

Not the cheapest, but we only get what we pay for.

Thanks, Nienke. The fb site is in Thai - which for me is a problem but it's a start. For the moment though I've had the cat seen by another vet, also with Kasesart teaching credentials

I looked through the thread, and google, with no luck.

We are in Bang Saphan, Prachuap Khiri Khan, and a few days ago picked up 2 puppies by the side of the road.

Some great locals introduced us to the vet in town who is very good, but limited equipment.  We may need to do a blood check on one who is sick, and he does not have the equipment to do so.  Most the locals go to Hua Hin for special services, but thought I would ask if anyone knows a vet closer (with construction going on Hua Hin is at least 3 hours).  Heard maybe a vet in Thap Sakae, but can't find one.  Chumphon is also closer if anyone knows one.

Thanks!

Hi, did you find a vet in Chumphon? We just found a street dog which we have adopted and I would like to sort out injections and the dogs general health. Thanks in advance

Hi, we did not find a vet in Chumphon.  Been making the drive to Hua Hin, the Kasestart (sp?) veterinary hospital.  First rate doctors.

Good luck!

Hi

I have just been told about two vets in Chumphon, have been going past them most days but never noticed them. The Vet on the road out of Chumphon heading towards Pathio is very good, any questions let me know

Right down the street about 700m  from the 4 way light intersection of Ocean Mall, Train Station..... after the school towards Pathio. There is a 24 hour veterinary clinic at the corner.

There is also another animal hospital on the same road as the Tessaban is.

They are both within 2km of each other.  Good luck.

Sheryl,

Thanks for this info. My Persian cat seems very ill and I saw a vet today and the diagnosis seems off. Do you know how I can contact the Pattaya branch of this veterinary clinic.

Thanks,

Eric

They do not have a Pattaya branch AFAIK but are located near Swampy (airport).

With a seriously ill cat I would urge you to come to Bangkok and go either here or the govt vet hospital at either Kasetsart Univ (near Morchit/Chatuchak) or Chulalongkhorn Univ. The last 2 will be least expensive but involve long waits and are a longer drive from Pattaya.

Don't delay. Cats in general do not appear seriously ill until they really are and Persians in particular are delicate.

Thanks Sheryl, I just saw your response.  I did take my cat to see Dr Tony and he was just incredible. Super thorough with my cat and very good at taking his time to educate me about all the health issues my Persian had. Unfortunately my cat had HCM as well as kidney probs and passed away recently. We were nursing the cat back to health with Tony's guidance and he seemed to be doing well then just took a turn for the worse and quickly passed at 8 yrs old.    I'm looking for another kitten now and spoke to Dr Tony today and he recommended doing some bloodwork as well as ultrasound before I take the cat home. Another Persian from a breeder whose cattery I checked out already.  If you are aware of any reputable Persian breeders I'd love to know.
