Good Dentist / Good Price In Bkk

I'm looking to get a root canal at a high-quality and reasonably-priced decent dentist or dental hospital in Bangkok. (Yes, I believe it's possible)

Does anyone have a recommendation, along with the price they've paid for dental services there?

Thanks in advance

Cost of a root canal depends on the tooth -- some have more roots than others. Thantakit's a high-end clinic and its website shows 6-9,000 baht per tooth. The Dental Hospital and the large hospital clinics that cater to foreigners are in the same range.

I've found the Dental Hospital very easy to deal with. Local clinics may be a bit cheaper.

Of course if you need a crown or other work you'll have to add that to the cost of the root canal.

Central General Hospital in Laksi. Tel: 02 552 8777

Fillings, root canals, crowns... Dr. Thantip. A lady in her forties; fluent English.

Slow injections, almost no pain. Ask if she is available, she will take you on the phone and get you a price. A clean and modern hospital and certainly cheaper than downtown.

Thots, apparently Chula Uni has a dental clinic at Siam sq where the grad students are supervised by the pros and supposedly at an excellent rate. Should be ok for a root canal :o . Never been myself (I go to the dental hospital suk 49) but if you or anyone else tries the Chula University clinic, maybe fill us in? (no pun intended :D )

Thanks, everyone, for the recommendations.

I previously made a special trip to Bangkok for a particular dentist who wanted to charge higher rates outside of the range on her website, so have been looking for other places to get some work done.

You generally get what you pay for ... true the world around though it is generally much cheaper here in LOS. :o But I will go nowhere else but Dr Kiertichai - 02-255-1445. US trained.

Why not try Bangkok Dental Home? Had my teeth done there and met other foriengers there. The service is friendly. The specialist that I had was professional. The clinic is clean and I found one of the best thing about them is their prices are extremely affordable - lower than the hospitals and the other clinics mentioned.

From what I understand, they have a policy that they do not charge any hidden costs such as services fees, consultation fees, credit card fees that many of the hospitals and clinics charges at the end of your bill.

Try emailing them at [email protected]. Or you can see their website at www.bangkokdental.com which is quite complete.

I've had work done at three places here in Bangkok. My first experience was at Bumrungrad where they put a crown on a tooth. It kept coming off!

I went to a clinic on Si Ayutaya, near the BTS station -- but I can't remember the name or find their card.

Finally, I had some work done at Yanhee Hospital. They were the least expensive and I will probably go back. The drawback is that, since it is across the river, it is not very convenient.

I'm sure that there are other, equally good places.

There are first class dental facilities throughout Thailand not just in Bangkok.

There are also some dodgy looking ones.

Yesterday afternoon I had 2nd of what will be 4 visits to a local 2 surgery clinic for root canal and crown. Immaculate facilities. They even adjusted the air-con to make me feel more comfy.

1hr and 25mins in the chair.

I was dreading it. But absolutely 100% pain free. Didn't even feel the injections because of the anaesthetic gel they use first. Only problem, naff piped soothing music with twittering birds stopped me from nodding off.

Total cost 9000 for the one tooth including crown. Same price for Thais.

About the same as I would have paid my NHS dentist in UK.

Just felt the need to tell somebody.......

No one has mentioned specialities in this thread.

In modern dentistry, specialities are what is done and general dentists are fine for general fillings, etc.

But crown and bridgework is a recognized specialty, as is root canal.

I certainly would go to a clinic or dental hospital that identifies their dentists by specialty.

Many dentists, who are on the faculty of Universities, have private practices on the side and you can usually identify them by their lack of availability during the daytime during the work week. At Grace Clinic in CNX, all the dentists with their pictures, specialities, university positions and degrees are on a big board on the wall.

My bridge and crown specialist is on the the staff of CMU and who started her own clinic, sent me to the root canal specialist who did two of them for her, will start the process tomorrow. She has an orthodontist do the cleaning.

As professors, they have annual visits to the U.S. for seminars. You can evaluate dentists often by the latest toys they have in the office.

Last year I was amazed by the pen/camera that displayed the tooth up close on a computer screen so you could see before and after pictures.

This year it is a computer assisted tooth cutter that allows the dentist to actually create the tooth from a ceramic plug right in her own office by using a computer program. She said she gets much more customized work this way. than she can at a labratory. She showed me how it is done and it is truly amazing to see a cutting tool, assisted by water, create a tooth from a cermamic plug right before your eyes.

My root canal has been priced at 8k with the initial consultation free and the actual root canal spread over three visits.

I was put at ease as the need for the root canal was a big question in my mind. Since I will be in OZ for three months, I wanted to find out about a pressure sensitive condition in one of my molars.

My dentist took a "tooth sensitive measuring device" and applied it to a healthy tooth and had me raise my hand when I felt something. Then did it to the suspect tooth. The reading was 35 on the healthy tooth and 80 on the suspect tooth. Evidently, healthy roots are far more senisitive than rotting roots, and while the suspect tooths root didn't appear to be rotting on the x-ray, the sensitive test identified it as ready to "pop" at any time and a sure candidate for a root canal in the next year, regardless.

You can tell by my posts on my dental experience in Thailand, that I am a very happy camper and while I have always had the best dental care in the West, it is even better here and a great deal cheaper once you have found "your dental clinic".
