Not meaning to sound snotty or critical but isn't this a matter of "if you have to ask about service costs labor etc." maybe you can't really afford it?

I mean next to the cost for the initial purchase not being your average Toyota, Honda or even Audi for that matter I should think those concerns would be a minor issue and the former is relative likely yes? Just as if you bought an R8 for example...

Anyway, yes I envy you..

Bugger! How's it going? Haven't seen you posting much lately?

What you probably want to know is how you get it serviced since you're looking at "grey" import cars. I think asking it is common sense since if you buy an expensive car through the grey channels and you don't have access to warranty or services it might be handy to know what to do.

Check with Yontrakit, they will probably charge you an "entry fee" for their service if you don't buy through them. they are the official Audi importers in TH. Some grey importers can provide warranty and services through Yontrakit or have access to parts and computer systems themselves. Others have good relations with outstanding specialists to do the works.

I don't know about Audi, but do know that Porsche BKK will charge you an entry fee to service the car if its not bought through the official channels.

So most important is to choose a reputable grey importer if its a model that is not imported officially. If the car is available in grey and official, check the price diff and the cost of entry into service. Also be aware that most grey imports have one year warranty vs multiple years for the officials. Check out Royal Motors on petburi rd and Yuma on Rama 3.

@ Hakku, thats essentially what i wanted to know .... grey imports sometimes had problems with delaing with servicing and repairing ... and generally you need to pay a "fee" ... same as with Ducatis (although mine since it is the 998 is exempted as the dealer was not open when they release that model) ... you seem into this ... any reliable importer they told me ETAN is good ... any others?

@ WarpSpeed, I agree with you that anybody buying a 4 million bath car should not care too much about a service of 20,000 bath ... i dont really too much, but that said, i need to know i will be able to do it ... since i dont wanna have a car that gets broken and needs to stand off there for months until is repaired ...

Thanks for the replies guys ...

Ok fair enough, thanks for not taking offense, though you may still have to wait on parts shipped on occasion depending on what is required, be prepared for that as it is certain there is not a large stock of parts in country for that car.

Well, I have some experience with the official service of AUDI in Thailand. In one word: LOUSY

I have an A6 3.0 TDi quattro. While it is a great car with fantastic mileage (6.8 liters per 100 km or over 1,000 km per tank), good quality (built in Germany) and reliable, the service of the official AUDI dealer here is really not up to the task.

I had a little fender bender (the wall of a parking moved when I tried to park :) ) and I brought the car to the dealer. First, the car stayed there for over a week, nothing, absolutely nothing done. Then they brought the car to Viphawadee Rangist and I had to go there for some insurance paperwork. After 3 weeks, the car was ready, but not quite, still some parts were out of stock. But they asked me to pick it up at Viphawadee Rangist. Quite far away for me.

The car, although over 5 million new, comes with NO free service, NO free insurance, NOTHING. Even my little Jazz had free service and free insurance for 1 year.

A friend of mine has an older A6 2.4 and shares my opinion. Too bad, because the car is excellent.

And AUDI has a much better image here than Benz. Benz, you know, the cars which always drive on the right lane, no matter what.

I dont mean to step on toes.

I never understood the buyers of luxury cars in Thailand.

It is just a giant:

"I am a good taxpayer" badge of honor.

5million for a TT  and more than 3mil is just money

you give to the government to help them out.

Some pay 25Mil for a car that is worth 8mil.

For 25mil you can buy a small hotel

plus a Thai made  Limousine, put a designer lounge with 50inch satellite tv

in the limo and a driver with a lifetime contract

It should buy you more face than just a 25mil car.

thaibai, a car is worth what people want to pay for it. simple as that. if you don't care for tv and a lounge, hey... there you go. then again, most people i know who buy 8 or 10 million baht cars do ALSO have the tv and a place to live.

Different discussion I think

rsraleigh, did you get one? if not check out royal motors, they're good. just appointed RUF distributor for LOS and also bringing in the Audis etc.

I had one of them in the US. It was reliable, nothing broke unexpectedly in 5 years from purchase. But actually I think that if I was buying again I think that I'd go for either the Z4 or or the Cayman instead. The TT drives a bit like an old lady's car. It's very nice to drive to church on Sundays because all the spinsters will think that you're rich, but it isn't exactly the best car if you want to go out and rip apart twisty country roads. Not that it's a bad car, it's just that there's a lot of competition in that price range and none of the direct competitors are slouches.

For 5mil you could custom build

a fantastic car here, 600HP

better handling, better brakes, better interior,

better everything, but the Audi stamp on it.

And all 5mil go into your car not to tax.

But everybody have different taste, which is a good thing.

I had an Audi TT in the UK. it was the first small car I had owned as a daily driver in years and I did enjoy driving it but it was heavy, and felt cumbersome. Compared to my Alpina 5 Series (E39) it made that feel nimble.

I really liked the TT but I would not have another. I had the AMD CHip and ran it at 249bhp (so my 1.8 turbo had the power and almost the torque of the 3.2 V6 but without the DSG gearbox) and to cut a long story short, I blew the turbo and took the engine out with it. Bottom up rebuild wasn't cheap. I don't rate 'em. Better cars available for the money. but if you are young and impressionable as I was, its a nice ride to poke about in.

Just to put things straight: I didn't buy the car new, it was already 18 months old and had some 7000 km. So I got it for a much lower price. Much lower.

I would love a car with 600 HP and great handling too. Problem is, the family would probably object. :)

You are buying a "grey import"... They usually come with 1 year warranty and road service...

After that... You are on your own... At least that is my understanding.

If it turns out to be a lemon.. who knows... ?

You just need to weigh these risks before buying the car and consider if it is really better than just buying a Benz/Lexus/BMW instead of a grey.

please keep us updated.

An Audi TTS Roadster is a not a luxury car. It just very expensive in Thailand.

If I may chip in on this older thread, why not get the TT-RS?

And the new TT cannot be compared to the old 1st gen TTs. Totally different. The first TT was built on the Golf base, except the Quattro.

And it was very popular with the gay crowd.

Not only that, it has a "real" Audi engine. A 5cylinder turbo. What they are supposed to have.

If I had the cash, I would pick up a B7 RS4. There was one briefly on Taladrod for 4.25mil. LOVE that model, despite a carbon and sludge build up in the IM due to the FSI system.

On a side note, if anyone has an "older" Audi which they want serviced by people who know what they are doing and don't charge an arm and a leg, I know of a very good place on Nawamin Rd. No, they don't speak English.

PM me for details.

Did I say luxury car? It's a top line sports coupe in every country.....

I think if you did a poll in every country to name a top line sports coupe i don't think Audi TT is going to be mentioned often if at all unless your aspirations are not very high, a dependable saloon based 2 door with sporty styling.

Just a thought about the AUDI TT:

If the power is not enough (and frankly: is it ever?), consider a chip tuning by ABT. That's the German tuning firm, which runs the ADI DTM program, very experienced guys. They make a chip tuning for almost all AUDI / VW engines with turbo chargers. Simple, easy and not expensive and - very important - full factory warranty.

For the 2 liter TT they have 3 stages: 240 HP or 270 HP or 300 HP (from the initial 200 HP)

Check their web-site: www.abt-thailand.com
