University For Adults

Recommended Posts

Hello,

My g/f graduated from high school (finished M6). She wants to attend university, but is now 22. Universities that cater to older students are common in the US, but I am not sure about Thailand. Are there any universities that specialize in older students? She is willing to go to a regular university, but I know she will be uncomfortable surrounded by 17 and 18 year olds.

Many universites in Thailand offer "International Programs" tailored to foreign citizens, adults, and Thai who want to learn in English. Many of the students are older than your girlfriend at 22.

I'm attending one, and quite like being surrounded by the 17-24 year olds. :o

Ramkhamhaeng is a Government Uni designed for adults. They have campuses all over Thailand. Very cheap about (3000-4000 baht per year) and have an open enrollment policy. Most busy adults attend this school. They also have a very good International Program. I'll be attending their International Program in 06.

Hey bino, I'm studying in an international program in Thailand as well. Don't you find that the standards here are a lot worse than from a western country even in these programs. I'm almost finished my masters degree and its been a good experience, but if I was going to do it again I would definitely choose to do it in the west.

Standards? What standards???

Can sum it up in two words- Amazing Thailand.

To be fair- a couple of my teachers are really great and I have learned a lot from them. The school on the other hand- is as descrived above! :o

Most universities offer evening and/or weekend classes in at least some subjects. In the classes I've taught, 90% were adults. Mostly day workers, it seems

I agree

I remember one exam I had, after 5 minutes the American dean burst in and delivered a 2 minute notice (apparently the best time because it was a captive audience). Meanwhile the lecturer is circulating around us helping answer questions and clarifying the meaning of the questions. Un-freakin-believable

There are some good teachers out there but liberally mixed in with a lot of pap.
