There are some big fish to be caught here. I was seeing if anybody on here would like to join me in November sometime ? Also John Wilson visits this place alot. There are some very big fish in this lake. They close the lake i think every other month for a week or 2 so to let the fish have a rest. Also you can only use 1 rod. Tell me how far is it from Bangkok and do you have any coordinates. I normally don't go to real expensive lakes but my family is comming and want to fish too. I got a car so that would be ok. On my bike it only took 1hr 20min , but in a car i suppose 2 hours . 2300 bht a rod , i held my rod all day , its still quite hard to hook up ,runs all day long , so you could easily share two rods Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I am toying with the idea to bring my father and brother there. But will have to see if i feel confident enough to drive there myself or that i have to take my lil thai gps (GF) I do have a real gps too so who knows. My father and brother are comming next month... so far i have 6 fishing days planned with my brother and more with my father because he stays longer. rufanuf Posted October 2, 2010 Share Posted October 2, 2010 Its nice to see Expats are finally starting to understand the difference between a traditional Thai Fishing Park and a place that offers something worth targeting, with a price tag to boot. Some of Hong's (the owners) fish he has grown personally for nearly 20 years, and they do indeed include some the countrys biggest specimens, including Arapaima to enarly 400lbs, Chao Praya and Mekong Catfish to 200lbs, Siamese Carp over a 100lbs, Redtails to 100lbs....so the list is pretty impressive for such a small place. At present Palm Tree Lagoon represents one of the best value fisheries for the serious angler in Thailand, since the price hike at Lake Monsters, which has long since seen its best days...great for redtails but thats about it...Lake Monsters now 7000BHT 1 rod all day if your not a lure fisherman...my advice? Dont go there! Go Palm Tree, Greenfield (2500 a day per rod) or Teak Tree Lake in Chiang which is probably the best as yet undiscivered lake out there! See the link Fishing in Chiang Mai. Hi Rob, for us expats totally agree, but like I say at least people are starting to distinguish the differences between specialist fisheries and run of the mill Thai fishing parks....I think for run of the mill...Shadow Lake still holds a special place as they have some enormous carp and catfish, its a challenge, and no dual pricing! I have found another small fishery that has two carp in it at 84kg and 96kg amongst a couple of dozen others...at 30kgs very low stocking density and very few Mekongs...last year both the big carp came out in December twice a piece. Nice picture. To be honest i like shadow lake (ngau nam) because of the challenge it offers. I caught real big cats there but you really have to do your best. Bungsamran is much easier. Also because its not so crowded (lately a bit more crowded) you dont need real thick line, in Bungsamran you need thick line because you need to reel the fish in as fast as possible as not to bother others or give it a chance to get under the wood. Also one of my problems with Bungsamran (besides the dual pricing) is that its hel_l to get there it can be real busy on the way there. I finally got my own car but havent taken it to Bungsamran only shadow lake many times. Its close by for me (24km) and no trafic jams on the way.
