What passport are you travelling on ? You may have the option of coming "visa waiver" and getting a tourist permit on arrival, or alternatively you may want to apply for a tourist visa from a thai consulate abroad and get a longer permit when you arrive.

As Penelope states if you are from one of the qualifying countries listed below you can arrive without a visa and obtain a 30 day stay. If you are not from one of the qualifying countries you will need to apply for a tourist visa at your local Thai Embassy/Consulate........good for 60 day stay.

Make sure you have proof of onward ticket if arriving without a visa.

TOURIST VISA EXEMPTION

- According to the Interior Ministerial Announcements dated 1 October B.E. 2545 (2002), 20 December B.E. 2545 (2002) and 18 October B.E. 2547 (2004) , passport holders from 39 countries and Hong Kong SAR do not require a visa when entering Thailand for tourism purposes if their stay in the Kingdom does not exceed 30 days.

- The applicant must possess instrument of means of living expenses 10,000 Baht per person and 20,000 Baht per family accordingly.

- Please also be advised that ordinary passport holders of 39 countries and Hong Kong who intend to engage in certain activities are eligible to apply for a visa when entering the Kingdom if their qualifications meet the conditions set forth by the Office of Immigration Bureau. Il be comming from the UK and no Dr I won't be working on this visit. This is to see my wife, birth of baby and hand in visa application.

So if im from the UK then its 30 days right?

Correct, 30 days.

If you want to stay for longer and you don't want to have to cross the border you could get a 60 day tourist visa while you were in the UK.

If you planning on making multiple trips in the next year then maybe the Non Imm O would be better ( and able to get a WP if needed ). It's already been explained how you can obtain one of these in a previous thread you started.
