News_Editor Posted October 4, 2010 Share Posted October 4, 2010 Russian President Medvedev congratulates Soviet filmmaker Marlen Khutsiyev on 85th birthday 2010-10-05 04:24:24 GMT+7 (ICT) MOSCOW (BNO NEWS) -- President of Russia Dmitry Medvedev on Monday congratulated Marlen Khutsiyev, film director, president of the Russian Guild of Film Directors, and professor at the VGIK national cinematography university on his 85th birthday. Khutsiyev was born in Tbilisi, Georgia in 1925 and gathered a cult following mostly for his films from the 1960s like "I Am Twenty" and "July Rain." He formed part of the Venice Film Festival jury in 1980. "Your multifaceted talent, distinct creative style and masterful grasp of the film directing profession have earned you deserved recognition from colleagues and won the hearts of numerous viewers. Your films, which have become Russian cinema classics, remain popular today. Each of them tells a sincere story of people, their quests, and hopes," Medvedev said.
