US State Department announces envoys to Middle East and Central Europe to discuss bilateral issues

WASHINGTON D.C. (BNO NEWS) – The United States Department of State on Monday announced two envoys to the Middle East and Central Europe respectively to discuss bilateral issues.

Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs William Burns will travel to Yemen, Iraq and Jordan from October 4-8. On the other hand, Deputy Secretary of State James Steinberg will visit Slovakia, Hungary and Poland from October 7-9.

Under Secretary Burns will depart on Monday to Yemen to consult with government officials and political party leaders on ways to enhance regional security and promote development. He will also travel to Jordan where Burns will discuss regional and bilateral issues, including Middle East peace process, with King Abdullah.

In Iraq, Burns will reaffirm the U.S. support towards the formation of an inclusive government. The Under Secretary will also review the progress on the transition to a civilian-led partnership in Iraq. He will return to Washington D.C. next Friday.

Deputy Secretary of State James Steinberg will visit Slovakia and Hungary next Wednesday. He will meet with government officials to reaffirm the bilateral relationship that the U.S. shares with both Central European countries.

In Slovakia, Steinberg will discuss goals related to Visegrad Four presidency. In Hungary, the American official will talk about the upcoming 2011 European Union presidency. Then, he will travel to Wroclaw, Poland to give a speech at the Wroclaw Global Forum on Thursday.

The forum is a high-level regional conference on transatlantic relations, where Steinberg will deliver a keynote speech to highlight the importance of the relationship between the United States and Poland. He will also meet with Polish government leaders.
