goski
I recently made this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GsiQ_jjE_o4 But since the average expat age in Chiang Rai is 92, the music might be found to be offensive.

Limbo
. . Beautiful people ... . . . . . . . . .Yesterday a new year celebration took place at . . . . . .the house of Khun Miti, Chairman of Chiangrai United FC . . . . . .in Maechan. Mainly farmers were present thus. Beautiful people, . . . . . .the backbone of Thai society. . . . . . .Also the players of Chiang Rai Hills FC came to say hello. . . . . . .It doesn't happen often that we see hilltribe people on stage for . . . . . .other reasons than showing their clothes or dancing for tourists. . . . . . .Limbo . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Some of the players of Chiang Rai Hills FC also double as technicians, camera men, sound managers, reporters or DJ's at Weahradio (FM 94) or internet. That's why they wear the shirts of the radio station. At yesterdays occasion they distributed hundred Weahradio wrist watches among the public. It was great fun as many of those who got one, never had one before ... . . . Edited April 20, 2010 by Limbo

Kaoboi Bebobp
Finally got round to perusing this thread. And I'm glad I did. You guys certainly portray a very pretty province. Love those rolling hills and vistas of high hills and clouds, not to mention the fields of rice and terraces of tea. There was even a coffee pic. Mmmm, coffee! Bugs? Un-nh! Thanks everyone for giving me a glimpse into Jangwat Chiang Rai. Hope to see it in person in October. Oh, anyone care to volunteer some pix of CR town? Thanks Edited July 10, 2010 by Kaoboi Bebobp

lannaman
I took a stroll around Chiang Rai Stadium area and the adjoining lake this morning. At 9am hardly a soul about, nice and peaceful. The gardens around the newish school are very pleasant, and with the lakeside path made an interesting walk, plenty of big fish jumping.
svenivan
Going home from Mae Sai and the 90-days report we passed Mae Salong. If you want to go to Mae Salong you can go one way up to Mae Salong and another coming back and that makes a nice loop. If you come from Chiang Rai and just before coming into Mae Chan there is a trafficlight and a road to the left to Thaton and the sign say Chiang Mai (road 1089). The other road to Mae Salong starts after Mae Chan at a trafficlight and you take left on the road 1130. These are on the road 1130 before you come to Sam Yaeck and the road splits into 3051 and 1234. When you come to Mae Salong on the 1234 road then go through the village and just before you leave the village there is a road up to the right to come to the two temples that are on the top of the Doi Mae Salong. Just before that road there is a very nice restaurant on your right side. Good food and a nice lady running the place that speaks good English. She also have some very nice looking huts if you want to stay over night. The temples. The view over Mae Salong. After coming back to Mae Salong, if you go to the right to go back towards Mae Chan, there is a gate on your left side and a road to Chinese Soldiers Museum. Interesting if you want to know some of the modern history of Thailand. On the road from Mae Salong going down to road 1089. In my opinion now is the best part of the year for travel. No smoke, no tourists, fantastic views in the mountains, low price for accomodation and not hot. This was Thursday last week and it was raining most of the day but between the showers that is when the views are as best.

villagefarang
Nice Pics VF Thank you. I sometimes enjoy the process of taking things we normally overlook and make them the subject of an interesting picture. I particularly like the dragonfly on the mushroom and the little spiders on the snail.
ryladie99
Wat Rong Khun Description below from discoverythailand.com: Wat Rong Khun is very different to any of temple you are likely to see in Thailand. A lifetime project of artist Chalermchai Kositpipat, the temple has a fine blend of traditional Buddhist art with contemporary themes. The temple is almost entirely white – no other colours are used at all. It is though decorated with small pieces of mirrored glass which add substantially to the temple's spacious and airy feel. Designed to be viewed in moonlight, if you can manage to get there when the moon is out it's worth the effort – very nice indeed. Wow? wow and wow?? Thanks for posting these pictures...they are awesome.....
Limbo
. . . . Though there were some problems with subsiding poles in the back row of the middle part it seems as if the targeted period for the festive opening can be maintained. To be sure I would say that we skip April but go for May ... It can be expected that the impact on consumer behaviour will be well comparable with the one of the opening of the Big C, I guess now about 14 years ago. It will be very interesting to see. What can we expect? Probably Robinsons (though a small one has opened recently on the first floor above the plaza of Taweeyont), Tops (would be the third one in town), BTS, Supersports, MK, Pizza Hut, KFC, Bootz, Hotpot, Fuji, Auntie Anne's, Gelate, Jeffer Steak, Chesters Grill, S&P, Heads or Tails, DQ, World Camera, Power Buy, several banks and so on, and so on... Anyhow, we have only one of the new Central Plaza's that will be opened during the period 2010 to 2012. Chonburi and Khon Kaen opened already and the new 'refurbished' Udonthani is also ahead of us, in Bangkok the ones at Lardprao, Embassy, Lumpini and Rama IX start developing silhouettes and Suratthani and Pitsanulok are making progress as well. Chiangmai 2 will possibly take a little bit longer. Until 2020 we will see the towns getting bigger and bigger en Charoen starts therefor now building malls in the towns that have around 100.000 inhabitants. The last count in Chiang Rai was about ten or twelve years ago if I am informed right and at that moment the number was estimated to be around 70.000. Some of you will have been visited already by the charming ladies who pick up the list with names of those sharing your roof. We will see if we reach the 100.000 in this count. I guess we do ... Smaller towns or big towns in poorer areas will get Robinsons. Total investment will be about 20 billion Baht (4,7 billion Euro) a year, so the winds have to blow from the appropriate direction ... The aerial photo has been taken just a couple of days ago and the artist impression has been created probably already some years ago. Limbo . . . . . . lungron
Does anybody mind if I make a suggestion, I am a frequent visitor to Chiang- and enjoy looking at your Photo's, my sugggestionis why dont some of you buy a Polerising lens for your Camers and keep it attached , You would get mch clearer pictures and would not have the misty affect in the Mountains. Thanks for the views of my favourite Province, lungron.
