7/7 London bombings may have been delayed 24 hours

LONDON (BNO NEWS) -- The four suicide bombers who killed 52 people on the London subway on July 7, 2005 may have delayed the attacks for 24 hours, it was learned in the first day of a judicial inquiry on the attacks.

Relatives of the victims were thrown back into the chaos of July 7, 2005 after the court played several telephone conversations between emergency services and the subway stations where three of the four bombs exploded.

The investigation aims at determining the circumstances of the deaths but will also examine whether there were any faults in the response of emergency services, or an intelligence failure.

According to the inquest, the bombers might have wanted to match their bloody operation with the announcement of the 2012 Olympics winner bid, which won London to Paris and Madrid, but a domestic problem would have disrupted the plan.

The mastermind of the bombings, Mohammad Sidique Khan, sent a telephone message on July 6 at 4.35 a.m. local time to one of his fellow bombers, Shehzad Tanweer, apparently to cancel a meeting: "Having major problem. Cannot make time. Will ring you when I get it sorted. Wait at home."

According to the inquest, the "big problem" referred by the leader would be some complications of his wife's pregnancy, leading to think that the attack was originally planned for another day and not on July 7.

The inquest, which will last at least five months, will present the testimonies of about five hundred survivors and unedited video footage.

The biggest problem I have with this whole event was the huge sell-off of British pounds in the forex markets in the 2 months prior to the attacks. It appeared that the profit from the sales were moved into Euros and South African Rands. The month after the attack, they were bought back at a much reduced price. Somebody made a lot of money. Well into the 10s of billions and it wasn't four young muslims who made the profit.
