TAMPICO, MEXICO (BNO NEWS) -- Four students were kidnapped while exiting the facilities of a private university in Tampico, northern Mexico on Tuesday, the El Norte newspaper reported.

The individuals, who are all between 19 and 20 years old, are students at the 'Tecnológico de Monterrey Campus Tampico.' They were kidnapped at around 1.00 p.m. local time.

The university's board of directors has not confirmed the incident but military service members were seen entering the facilities and then evacuated all areas of the campus.

At around 5.00 p.m., the Tecnológico de Monterrey summoned its professors to an extraordinary meeting but the outcome has not been disclosed. The university has suspended all its classes until further notice.

Preliminary reports indicate that the students were traveling in a van when the incident occurred. The vehicle was abandoned and subsequently located at the Aldama highway at about 3.00 p.m.
