That taxi driver who 'attacked' a tank wasn't exactly a suicide bomber with a bomb belt, but more like a Thích Quảng Đức or Jan Palach kind of political protest.

Actually, most indications were that he was simply mentally ill.

A sad tragedy in and of itself, but he was no martyr. He was just an unfortunate person whose cranial neurons were misfiring.

A taxi against a tank is the most obvious indicator that he was "more like" a hapless Don Quixote attacking windmills on his trusty steed, if you need to have someone to compare him with.

These cowardly scum don't have enough gall to carry out such an attack...

Why would you say that after we all know they had the "gall" to torch 31 buildings on May 19?

No, Jatuporn tells us that that wasn't the red shirts, it was govt employees trying to discredit the UDD.

Troops deployed throughout capital city of Thailand

Thailand's Army chief Prayuth Chan-ocha has ordered deployment of troops in 1,868 communities in all 50 districts of Bangkok and adjacent provinces for civic action, intelligence collection and prevention of bombings and sabotage, an army source said.

The army chief's instruction follows the explosion at an apartment in central Nonthaburi province on Oct. 5, in which four people were killed, including the suspected bomb maker, and nine others wounded, a local media reported.

Intelligence agencies were convinced there could be more sabotage attempts and bombings of important installations, the source said.

The troops are drawn from three main units - the 1st Infantry Division, 2nd Cavalry Division, and the army's Air Defense Command. The operation covers all 50 districts of Bangkok, Nonthaburi, Pathum Thani and Samut Prakan where the emergency decree is still in force.

The army chief's order is for the troops to develop relations with the local people so that they can act as the eyes and ears of the authorities.

Each main force has been ordered to set up a rapid deployment company capable of reaching any location where a violent incident occurs in 15 minutes.

How pathetic that these retards use the most cowardly of all tactics to terrorise their fellow Thais and murder anyone within a yard of their stupidity.

Stupidity is of course the trademark of the Red Shirt Movement, their leader, the craven Shinawatra reptile, the stupidist and most cowardly of them all.

This most recently banal of threats undeniably bears the Shinawatra trademark.

Take the reptile out.

NOW!

You know how stupid this post is ?

and the man without a brain. Is this your country? No?Then, stay out of Thai politic.

"Martyr"? - what they say: One man's suicide bomber, another's martyr. or something like that?

Trying to reach "real" martyrdom isn't actually the sanest and most rational thing to do.

The Taxi driver wasn't just an idiot or only 'mentally ill' - fact is that he did also out of protest like the two other cases i mentioned (they got famous, but their fame doesn't indicate that they have been anyhow more sane)

Maybe "Don Quixote" fits better, but he was definitely not some kind of a suicide bomb belt dude nor should he be compared to people who build and plant bombs to kill randomly innocents.

Sorry to say, but there are moments I wished the doctored tape of PM Abhisit saying 'kill them all' from last year's Songkhran fun in Bangkok was true.

Why feel sorry, do you think there could be something wrong with the wish to 'kill them all'?

No worry - you blend perfectly in and nothing else is expected.

"Don't underestimate that the red shirt will not dare to do it as Nuamthong Praiwan used to set an example for them."

Nuamthong was a taxi driver who slammed his taxi against a tank following the September 19 2006 coup. He later hang himself in protest.

Somyos said the explosions of bombs made of fertilisers were carried out by the red-shirt people who were angry at the government.

He said the red-shirt leaders could not control these angry reds as they decided to take revenge on their own.

The taxi driver suicided, which is not really the same as 'suicide bomber'. 'suicide bombing' doesn't seem part of Thai mentality, although with reincarnation suicide seems more easy than for some Christians.

As the red-shirt leaders can no longer control their people and some angry reds are taking revenge on their own, I guess the government is justified in cracking down on them.

When PTP and UDD hand over material to the UN chief Ban Ki-Moon, a few red statements like the OP here should also be passed along. ;)

I believe the taxi driver did not hang himself. Someone make it looks like so.

Why don't the red shirt leaders come out and say "Red shirt people. We don't want you to do this."

Instead all they do is say "They are going to do this and we can't stop them."

They don't seem to care that innocent people will be killed.

Ever tried to reasoning with someone ready to become a "sucide bomber"?

Not a suicide bomber, but a young bloke off his nut on Meth. with a knife,

beware of young blokes walking around with microwaves off there nuts. this is not as silly as it sounds.

He was just mentally ill by most reports and family. That he incorporated the coup into his delusional system is just symptomatic of his illness. He could have just as easily fixated on anything else and done something equally bizarre (such as the taxi ramming into a tank).

In that regard, depending on what the fixation was on and how he decided to deal with it, he could have turned into a suicide bomber type finale. Fortunately for others, his illness took him down a different path and he decided that he would destroy the Army single-handedly with his taxi. Unfortunately for him, when that failed, he chose to hang himself while alone in the dark.

If he was a martyr for anything, it would be for better treatment of the mentally ill.

Well, one should never underestimate how willingly The China Daily will point out the failings in an Asian democracy.

However, welcome to a possible modern nightmare in Thailand. Army all over the place, Red Shirts threatening bombings and now mentioning suicide bombings.

And to think once upon a time, there was a square headed guy from Chiangmai who made a telephone company. How serious does it have to get before you can say "civil war"?

I fear they will find some involuntary suicide bombers like the guy with the fruit cart meant to blow up the BJT headquarters. Any people handling explosives in Thailand better watch their backs - for army and for read shirts!

Fortunately for others, his illness took him down a different path and he decided that he would destroy the Army single-handedly with his green and yellow taxi. hehe.

One could say the 'mentally ill' protest for a better treatment. And now they are at a stage of desperation were some of them could turn their 'protest' into a suicide bomber type finale.

Someone who plants bomb to kill randomly innocent people is for sure also deeply mentally disturbed. (But i haven't that much sympathy for these kind of ill people)

The wrong treatment or the wrong 'medication' for a society can causes adverse effect like "terrorists".

If this is all for real then I would expect the Red shirt leaders a do the right thing and along with the tourist tapshin sinawarter to volunteer to show the rest how it works. On the other hand .for the sake of Thailand, how about giving peace a chance? With elections coming up why not try influence things rather than blow them up? Are you big enough to give it go or do you think you will failin that too? Maybe your egos are just to be big and its not Thailand and its poeple that matter, just power and me.

Oh come on. That would be offensive. Pedalling calls to revolution are probably ok though.

Of course not, that's dirty, debasing women and more over illegal. If you want some you have to walk along lower Sukhumvit (like the rest of us) :)

Why not rent a huge field and send all the morons in red wearing their bombs to the middle.

Sell snacks and Red Shirt BS and have CNN, BBC and other news media filming.

Do a countdown like New Years eve.

Get lots of coverage...make some baht and ....BOOM!

I would buy a ticket for that.

No question, i believe you. And i think you are not the only one who would like to buy a ticket for that.

Deeply disturbed minds and sick fantasies aren't just something only suicide bombers are suffering from. iamright? yes!

I don't even want to read the story .. the headline was enough.

Maybe avoiding the truth here but I would much prefer to believe this story is BS and a continued campaign to show the Reds as terrorists ... not like there is anything I could do or prepare for in the event this story was true.

With the training in Cambodia story, this headline and others ... it seems somebody is taking news stories related to the Taliban and just changing names and location. If true, I hope it works to curb further violence by the Reds but I worry it could also backfire.

A red-shirt leader warned Thursday certain red-shirt people may turn suicide bombers to avenge the government crackdowns and fight for democracy.

Amazing. Only the warped minds of the Thai red shirts could attempt to use "democracy" for justification of suicide bombings.

If they do go ahead with this suicide bomb plan globally there will be very few people left under the heavily-financed myth that the red shirts are a force for democracy in Thailand. Instead they'll finally be viewed for exactly what they are; the cult of Thaksin, which will go to any lengths - including such vile terrorist acts - to see him restored to power.

Unfortunately I have to use the words "very few" and not "nobody" because even here we see a few posters borderline attempting to justify such threats. Frankly it's about time those people pulled their proverbial head out.
