News_Editor Posted October 25, 2010 Share Posted October 25, 2010 One dead, 19 injured after blast at factory in southern Belarus 2010-10-26 06:25:18 GMT+7 (ICT) MINSK, BELARUS (BNO NEWS) -- One person was killed on Monday and nearly two dozen others were injured after a blast at a factory in southern Belarus, local media reported. The blast occurred at a plywood factory in the Brest region of southern Belarus, setting the factory on fire as emergency crews rushed to the scene. "A fire broke out as a result of the blast," Vitaly Novitsky, a local emergencies official, told the RIA Novosti news agency. The fire was extinguished within several hours after the initial explosion. Novitsky confirmed that one person was killed in the incident, which caused a part of the roof to collapse onto workers at the factory. Eighteen people were taken to area hospitals with serious injuries, while one worker remains trapped under debris.
