NEW YORK (BNO NEWS) -- Nissan Motor Co. on Thursday said it will recall more than 600,000 cars, most in U.S., to fix problems with steering columns and battery cables.

The company said that the lower steering column joint and shaft problem affects more than 300,000 Frontier PickUp trucks and more than 280,000 XTerra sport utility vehicles. According to Nissan, the lower steering column joint can corrode the limit steering movement.

The company is also recalling more than 80,000 Sentra sedans because of a battery cable terminal connector problem that can make the cars difficult to start or stall at low speeds.

No accidents or injuries have been reported because of either issue.

Nissan plans to begin notifying owners next month once replacement parts are available. "We regret any inconveniences that our customers may experience as we address these issues," said Kevin Martin, vice president of Total Customer Satisfaction for Nissan North America.
