GUIYANG (BNO NEWS) -- Six people were killed and nearly 40 others were injured when a powerful explosion rocked an Internet cafe in southwest China on Saturday evening, state-run media reported.

The blast happened around 10.30 p.m. local time at an Internet cafe in Kaili City in Miao-Dong Autonomous Prefecture of Qiandongnan, according to the state-run Xinhua news agency.

Xinhua reported that six bodies had been recovered from the scene, while 37 others were transported to area hospitals. Eleven of them were in a serious condition.

It was not immediately clear what caused the explosion, which destroyed the building housing the Internet cafe and destroyed windows of nearby buildings.
