KARACHI (BNO NEWS) -- At least 50 people were killed on Monday when a pair of explosions ripped through a government building in northwestern Pakistan, local media reported.

The blasts happened inside the Political Aghent's office, the office of a senior government official, in the Mohmand tribal region near the Pakistan-Afghan border.

Ary News television reported that at least 50 people had been killed in the explosion, while more than 120 people were said to be injured. State-run media reported a death toll of 40, but said it was expected to rise.

Local media reported that the blasts happened when tribal elders and local administration officials were in a meeting. A suicide bomber was believed to be responsible for the first blast, while the second blast may have been caused by a bomb.
