LAS VEGAS, NEVADA (BNO NEWS) -- Las Vegas authorities on Wednesday announced that a trial date was set for boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. in relation to the battery charge against him for face poking a security guard last month.

Mayweather Jr., 33, was charged with a misdemeanor battery charge after allegedly poking his finger in the face of a private security guard during a parking dispute outside the boxer's Southern Highlands residence.

The trial set for February 3 will be heard by a Las Vegas Justice of the Peace.

Security guard Shayne Smith claimed that Mayweather poked him in the cheekbone after he placed citations on two of the boxer’s cars. This angered the 33-year-old boxer and grabbed one of the citations and slammed it on Smith’s patrol vehicle.

The guard, 21, told the officials that as Mayweather was screaming at him indicating that he had no business touching his personal property, he was jabbing his finger into the left side of Smith's cheek just below the eye.

Prosecutors said that the willful and unlawful use of force and violence upon Smith caused redness and discoloration of the area battered by the boxer. After the incident, Smith drove away, notified his superior and took photographs of the bruised area.

Mayweather Jr. is already free on $33,000 bail pending a January court date on unrelated felony charges stemming from a September dispute with Mayweather's children and their mother at her house.
