Paul888
In particular, I mean ThaiVisa members not random blokes in a bar. I will kick off. I have met Brianmarinus and Lannaman, so 2 for me. I am guessing that Kandahar, Scorpio45, Sceadugenga or Jubby (and outside bet sunholidaysun1 ) will return the highest numbers.....prove me right or wrong guys ! villagefarang
Off the top of my head I can recall the following. I’m sure there are many others but my memory is not what it once was and I never ask people I meet if they are on TV. My best friends are actually not members of TV, or random blokes in a bar, but we won’t get into that again. Here is my list, in no particular order. Kandahar, Scorpio45, Sceadugenga, Jubby, Lannaman, Harry, Harsu, dindong, mellofello, mcgriffith, svenivan, cmjantje, PhilB, Puuma, Garry... sceadugenga
I would presume I met others on my Hash excursion but I don't think anyone actually introduced themselves as a TV member on that day although I thought it was promoted as a Hash-ThaiVisa get together. I seem to recall Jubby introducing himself as "villagefarang's neighbour" and for some reason I thought he was Kandahar. Maybe we should develop a secret handshake same same the Masons. Probably not, I socialise more in chiang Rai now than I ever did and unless it's very short acquaintance, for instance I chatted to a senior citizen Aussie at the main market last month for 5 minutes, I usually bring up ThaiVisa. jubby
I don't mention Thaivisa unless someone mentions it first. with hindsight I should have picked a real psuedonym rather than the name everyone has called me since I was knee high to a grasshopper

villagefarang
Something tells me that VF is sandbagging here. Okay, perhaps I am trying to erase from my memory the fact that I have met a few other TV members. I think I did a pretty thorough job of qualifying my answer, however. My world does not necessarily revolve around TV and I don’t ask.
jubby
Is it pronounced Jubby or Jooby? Doesn't matter to me Scea. comes out as Jubby, Jabby, Jooby, Jabberwocky and the JubbJubb Bird. Sunny Delight pronouces it with an A ;-)

Every once in a while, Jubby, Jebby, Jabby, Jobby or who ever he is today, comes up with a short, sweet axiom like this. Fortunately not everyday, as we would miss his entertainment value. Paul888
So Paul888, is this what you had in mind when you started this topic? Yes, exactly. I started by wondering how big the farang community here was and then wondered how many of us had actually met each other in real life. I may actually start playing Thai Visa bingo now and start hunting people down to tick them off the list
jubby
Don't need a Ticklist Paul888 . They will all come out of the woodwork eventually. I met a few in Bars , years ago. and only realised recently who they were on here. One I only meet at Funerals. and of course The Hash & Potluck will give you a head start. On that poll there are 71 votes but only 52 names who registered where they live. Click ‘view’ to see the names. Not all are living in the Rai full time but it gives you an idea of who is around. villagefarang
To Jubby’s Hash and Potluck, I might add the Expat Club the first saturday of the month and Doi Chaang for coffee in the morning. I think Dave has a group of guys who play football as well, if that is your thing. School functions in town. Religious gatherings one would think. There are after all lots of missionaries, NGO types and teachers around. Edited December 17, 2010 by villagefarang
sceadugenga
There's ample opportunity for expats to socialise in and around Chiang Rai if they wish. I'd just like to add a reminder that some of us, and I pass no judgement on the more sociable members here, occasionally prefer our own company. Without suggesting that they're out and out hermits... sometimes, for various reasons, physical and mental, the thought of going out and joining a large group is a bit overwhelming. So when arranging events and gatherings it may be a good idea not to assume that everyone who contributes regularly and in a friendly manner on the forum will feel like joining in the fun and games. Fire away... Edited December 17, 2010 by sceadugenga

Fire away... To be honest, I am very much a speak when spoken to guy with people I don't know. I will always offer a nod and a smile to a fellow farang but I am very unlikely to open a conversation. Just one of my many character flaws but I do have beautiful children even if I say so myself.

Fire away... Indeed Sceadugenga, I have met quite a few thaivisa members, and a lot more non-thaivisa members. It doesn't mean I socialise with them regularly or crave farang company. I'm not good at large social gatherings myself. I do make the effort mainly because I think its good for my Children and wife to mix with people outside the village a bit more. Although most of us don't have a lot in common, being a wife of a farang or the children of a mixed relationship makes them have a bit more in common. The Kids and wives seem to hit it off better than we do ;-) Its probably only twice a month that I have farang company. Its suits me fine. Not exactly the Social Animal or the farang Hub Hey Paul, I have beautiful Children too, bring em along to the Hash or Pot Luck ; maybe they'll make Sweet Music together ;-) Edited December 17, 2010 by jubby
