WARSAW, POLAND (BNO NEWS) -- Poland on Monday announced that it will be conducting its own probe to determine the causes of last year's plane crash in Russia, killing 96 people including Polish President Lech Kaczynski.

Polish Interior Ministry spokesperson Małgorzata Woźniak confirmed that the report into the air crash would be ready by February, according to Warsaw Business Journal.

Poland has previously criticized reports issued by Russia's Interstate Aviation Committee (MAK) in which it determined that the cause of the accident on April 10 was due to errors by the Polish pilot without considering any possible mistakes by Russian air traffic control, the paper reported.

In addition, the Polish government said it did not receive any material connected with the accident, and its representatives were not allowed to access many documents related to the investigation. According to reports, the Polish government will conduct its probe according to the Chicago Convention on International Civil Aviation.

The Polish Air Force Tu-154 crash occurred in Smolensk, Russia, and in addition to the death of Kaczynski, several military and government officers lost their lives as well. They were on their way to attend the 70th anniversary of the Katyn Massacre.
