News_Editor
Hundreds evacuated in German town after explosives cache found 2011-01-23 04:38:05 GMT+7 (ICT) BECHERBACH,GERMANY (BNO NEWS) -- About 600 people were evacuated in the German town of Becherbach on Saturday as police brought in bomb-disposal robots to deal with around 60 kilograms of explosives, the German DPA news agency reported. The explosives were located in a shed that belonged to a 62-year-old local man who apparently collected explosives and ammunition as a hobby. Police also found an army surplus truck in camouflage paint, machine guns and hand grenades, which were moved to a German army arsenal. The robots were expected to drag the explosives to a nearby field for a controlled explosion early Sunday. Three explosions are planned, 1,300 to 1,400 meters away from the shed, police said. On Tuesday, police discovered 50 guns and 50,000 to 60,000 rounds of ammunition at the retired man's home in another town. He faces charges under gun laws. -- © BNO News All rights reserved 2011-01-
